this is a helpful movie explaining Nanking massacre
I went to the movie with an open mind, to see evidences presented by the film maker about the truth of Nanking, 1937. In November 2007, I visited Japan and was impressed with the people, how polite, so sweet, it is no wonder that the current Japanese people refused to believe Nanking massacre did happen. In this movie, I found the following background information that was seldom mentioned . Most rich people had already fled Nanking, leaving the poor to fend for themselves. Then the Chinese army retreated from Shanghai, the "front" that supposedly protected Nanking. Instead of fighting to the last stand, thousands of Chinese militarizes hided themselves among the civilians. I am Chinese and it doesn't make me proud to see thousands of soldiers simply allowed the Japanese to tie them up for execution, without putting much of a fight. In Japan, men were free to visit prostitutes, to satisfy their basic needs. In the end, the rape and killing stopped when the Japanese got their comfort women camp staffed and they had rounded up most of the hidden soldiers and lots of civilians mistaken as soldiers. The documentary shown enough information for me to understand what , how, when the massacre took place. Too bad there is no Oscar.
this movie is zhang's worst movie ever
I am now leery what Zhang will do to the Beijing Olympic's show. He is getting worse in the art of telling stories with film material. Curse of the Golden Flower is a joke. There is no believable emotions in any of the actors, and the action is fake. The color is ridiculous and the story is illogical. I hope this movie will not represent China because this does not even match up to Kung Fu Hustle of 2005. Zhang should return to make movies of small budget, like Not One Less, Road Home etc. Even Hero is not as good as his first historical drama:The Great Conqueror's Concubine. At least, Zhang is not pretending he is making another martial arts movie. In the epic fighting scene of Lords of the Ring ,part 1, it is believable. But Zhang rather copies from Matrix, part III, his special CG doesn't know how to generate random motion, and therefore everything is happening predictable and fake.He also copies from The Fall Of The Roman Empire in creating the last battle. The only good acting is the Liu, who plays Prince Wen.
Chiedo asilo (1979)
there is still redeeming value
I give this movie a ONE, for it is truly an awful movie. Sound track of the DVD is so bad, it actually hurts my ear. But the vision, no matter how disjointed, does show something really fancy in the Italian society. I will not go into detail what actually was so shocking , but the various incidents are absolutely abnormal. So for the kink value, i give it one.Otherwise, the video, photography, acting of the adults actors /actresses are simply substandard, a practical jock to people who love foreign movies.Roberto, the main character, has full spectrum of emotions but exaggerated to the point of being unbelievable.however, the children in the movie are mostly 3/4 years old, and they are genuine and the movie provides glimpse of the Italian life..
Million Dollar Baby (2004)
many medically flaw, does this indicate quality in production or deserving best picture of the year
I am an anesthesiologist. Many of the scenes in the movie are not medically logical . How can such sloppiness reflect excellence in production, directorship or even deserving best picture of the year? If the production people had spent anytime in a spine injury unit, they would discover the speech component is severely compromised on a ventilator. It is highly unkind to unplug the ventilator before rendering unconsciousness. Even my medically naive wife was shocked by such treatment. I hope no copy cat going to do euthanasia this way.Well researched production would be more deserving for the title of best picture of the year.
