The Phantom of the Opera (2004)
So good you can feel it
Extremely well done. Phantom is a movie that reaches to the depths of your soul. The plot is not new, but the experience is. The songs you know and love are brought to life again. When you watch this movie, your senses will come alive. You will become part of the Paris Opera House. You may grip the arms of your chair as you experience the power the Phantom holds over Christine. Your heart will break at the "point of no return." You may even see the Phantom for more than the monster that he seems to be. When you close your eyes, you will see the gilded glory of the opera house and you will hear the beloved songs. The only other time I have seen an audience so enthralled, so captivated, was during The Passion of the Christ.
This movie will become a part of you.
Van Helsing (2004)
The movie Van Helsing has a thin plot but great action and special effects. It left a lot of questions unanswered.... possibly leaving room for a sequel? You definitely need to pay attention throughout the entire movie, otherwise you will have even more questions at the end. An interesting depiction of Dracula, although it could be said that the writers took their artistic liberties a little too far. I don't regret seeing the movie, but it left me feeling rather unsatisfied.
Never Judge a Book By Its Cover
The title of this movie makes it sound like the movie will be an annoying chick flick geared toward teeny-boppers, and I did have some hesitation in going to see it. My fears were dispelled, however, in the first scene by Topher Grace's witty character (Pete). I wouldn't say that the plot is exactly original, but it wasn't 100% predictable. Angelica the bartender is a great character, and, as usual, Topher Grace rocked my socks off. The ending left a little to be desired, but there were quite a few quotable lines throughout the movie. Definitely two thumbs up!
