Feel Good Inspirational Drama. MUST SEE!
7 January 2017
In Theaters on January 20th. Guaranteed you will laugh out loud, likely you will cry and cheer as well, as you get the opportunity to peer into a slice of life in this character driven comedy drama with broad appeal. The Resurrection of Gavin Stone is an exceptional script using a "fish out of water" story telling formula to effectively pull off the delicate balance of engaging and likable characters, anecdotal comedy and is sprinkled with sidesplitting humor. Brett Dalton is perfectly cast to play the role 'Gavin Stone' an arrogant self-centered childish man who runs into trouble with the law. Gavin Stone is an actor with tremendous talent, a 'has-been' child star. After his mom's death and endless string of indulgent partying left him out of the scene and off the screen for years. One "off the hook rager" lands Stone sentenced with 200 hours of state mandated community service hours to be served at local Masonville Bible Church. A party boy in a church lends itself to a hilarious string of missteps that make you laugh and still love seeing the changes in Gavin as he engages with the locals and eventually come to care about more than just himself. Stone gets out of mopping bathrooms by playing Jesus Christ in the Church's stage production. Three quirky characters, local church boys, come around Gavin to help him, and he in turn then helps them be better actors in the play. You will love these 3 amigos. John Mark - hilarious bible nerd with a heart of gold. Anthony – a wanna be actor and über Stone fan boy. And the most surprising character, Doug. Doug is a tough guy biker, dedicated to helping others in need, played convincingly by Shawn Michaels. At the same time, Gavin has a volatile relationship with his father (played by Neil Flynn) and a budding interest in Kelly (Anjelah Johnson-Reyes) the director of the play, who by the way is the Pastors Daughter. This movie may be categorized in the Faith Based Movie genre and still will appeal to the larger market of movie-goers as a top shelf feel good inspirational drama. The Resurrection of Gavin Stone sits next to my favorite inspirational films, sports dramas, and 'It A Wonderful Life' type films that I truly enjoy with the entire family. In short, it's a must see!

Fight Science (2006– )

The ultimate fighter is a trained warrior - no ordinary human!
16 March 2009
WOW!! If you dig this stuff this inside look goes deeper than I have ever seen before. I love Mixed Martial Arts but never realized the physiological make up of these master athletes is nothing short of superhuman. These skilled MMA masters have not only perfectly conditioned there bodies but they also keep there mind sharp for strategy that goes far beyond other sports of physical combat. MMA is a hybrid complex sport that optimizes techniques from boxing, karate, Kung Fu, Kickboxing, Wresting, jujitsu. They alter there very muscles bones and nerves and condition there minds to withstand physical conditions a normal human body could never stand. They not only have to land blows but withstand impacts that would crush other humans. Are MMA the most all around physically disciplined athletes? It seems hard to refute. maybe one heavyweight boxer has a heavier blow but in the all around we include the kick too. Measured on a crash test dummy you would fair better in car crash than one of these blows. Not only does this fascinating National geographic series dig into the techniques but they drop a superhuman into an ice bath and measure the bodies reactions. long after a normal human should have been dead they add more ice and show what the mind is doing to alter the muscle and blood flow to protect the core. Even if you have never watched the Ultimate Fighting Championships this high quality study of human physiology uses CGI to illustrate inner organ and muscle reactions and will certainly spark your interest in the peek conditioning the body is capable of and it will introduce you to the sport! The ultimate fighter is a trained warrior. A combination of genetic advantage and rigorous training! This is no ordinary human. If you are a fan of the sport and the science behind it this is a must see! Hope this is Helpful!

Girls Rock! (2007)
3/10
Parents beware! W/ language & the behavior consider PG-13.
21 February 2009
Parents beware! This doc is sure to appeal to a few girls 9-15 especially if they are the 'rocker' type BUT it sends mixed messages. The intentions may be in the right place but the documentary falls short of being 'empowering'. Some girls can relate to, saying "she's like me." Its not uplifting nor are all the messages healthy. They do talk about anorexia bulimia diet drugs to get thin. They say you don't need to be like that but show clips of Britney Spears. WHAT? Many of these girls had deep anger, self esteem and grief issues. The camp leaders seem to have few answers. There are certainly some very positive message. So I give it 3*s. I watched this with my 14 year old female cousin and my 19 year old male cousin. When the words 'popularity-hore' were thrown around loosely I was shocked this has a PG rating. The language & the behavior must be considered PG13. They call each other smartass & use language like pissedoff and dam screwed and more from the mouth of kids. One girl bites others and another punches. I was very relieved my 4 year old daughter had gone to bed already. Later an 8 years old girl, Palace sang a song "San Fransisco sucks sometimes. Go to Hell Golden gate bridge. San Fansisco Sucks. No place that I wanna live. I don't wanna go there again. With my mom on a business trip. Just seeing its all about her. I'm gonna watch that city burn. And I'm gonna watch that city burn. that city burn, and that city burn..." HORRIFYINGLY ANGRY! and the mom speak proudly of her 8 year old picking outfits to me marketable... Its quite a disturbing sequence. Serious psychological issues should not be advertised as a positive. So this Doc is a mixed bag. I could talk with my cousin about the good and bad at 14, but younger girls should not be shown this behavior without close supervision to lead them through the rights and wrongs of film. Beware Parents. Use wise judgment, but some of you with rockin tweens may want to check it out carefully. Hope this is Helpful!

The Go-Getter (2007)
9/10
An unlikely romance with great charm!
23 October 2008
This is one of the most sweet, romantic and entertaining (unlikely) love stories I have seen in years. This is a MUST see! Very highly recommended. The opening scene; main character Mercer describes how he feels stuck. He is dealing with the loss of his mother and has yet to spread her ashes. Half brother Arlen doesn't even know she died. Mercer decides to make a change in his life. Like Huckleberry Finn our "go-getter" sets out on an adventure. This road trip starts with a car. Of course stealing a car is very out of charter for Mercer and when he's contacted by the owner (cell phone left in car) he apologizes profusely and an unlikely relationship begins. She believes this situation is fate (in the end it does bring them together). Mercer is headed to Reno to find his brother but detours to find and old girl friend in Fallen. The road trip leads him through many states, detours, characters and life lessons, all the while led by a narrating series of conversations with the car owner who eventually catches up with him in Sacramento. Zooey Deschanel has a beautiful dreamy voice; her tone and her 'sweet girl next door' authenticity, is perfect for the role. I didn't know Lou Pucci before this but what a fantastic actor. The script is smart and touching and very heartfelt. The acting is sensational. Overall, this is a believable story with interesting lovable characters. A FANTASTIC indie Drama. Highly Recommended! Hope this is Helpful!

Beowulf (2007)
10/10
A must see in my book.
26 November 2007
Grand and EPIC do not even begin to do justice to the masterpiece that is Beowulf!!! Magnificent! This movie has it ALL! It is a poignant touching cautionary tale that will lie on your soul. The script is perfectly adapted and keeps a fast pace. Beginning to end this experience is a THRILL ride of event and twists. The CGI is so amazingly real it is awe-inspiring. Most of the time you forget that it is even CG. If anything it was *more* real than live action, in that the monsters and humans were perfectly integrated and so you never notice any special effects. It provides a continuity the film would not have had in live action. I have seen many realistic CGI films but this is an entirely new level. The hardest part is eyes. Anthony Hopkins has a way of expressing with his eyes like few actors do. Certainly, I expected, that would be lost in the CG. It was not. The pores on the skin, the sweet, the facial and body hairs, the control overt lighting and shadows was spectacular. Even though much of the lighting was candles that flicker the lighting was believable and realistic. Nothing less than astonishing! I would forget it was CG until things like Grendel the monster with no skin would show up all bloody a dripping mucus and puss. Then I was thankful I never encountered such a foul being in real life. Did I mention, don't take the children. I even had the opportunity to see the 3D version. The realism of a man getting impaled by the chandelier and the blood flying right at your face in 3D makes it even more graphic. On the other hand, the realism of Angelina Jolie's breasts popping out of the scene in 3D on several occasions was ... well, breathtaking. She was however, more than just eye candy, she voiced the role spectacularly. All the voice talent was phenomenal Ray Winstone reminds me of Russell Crowe's performance in Gladiator. This is much better yet in my opinion. At one point King Hrothgar says "The Gods will not do for us what we do not do for our selves. What we need now is a HERO." It takes a super hero of super heroes to be a Danish Viking Legend and the voice and the character of Beowulf (Ray Winstone) work together, pulling of shear authenticity in an unbelievable fictional character. How do you compliment the acting when it is CG, well I must because Hopkins is still a master. I ramble on… so I will not get into the story now, but you will be touched by the innocence of a grotesque monster in pain, stunned by the beauty of the monsters mother, appalled at the state of man who becomes monstrous, moved by the heart and courage a man who chooses to right the wrong he did, and most importantly you will be WOWED by the movie Beowulf! This is a thrill ride. You will want to see it. I hope this is helpful!
