Blood and Bone (2009)
A mixed bucket, but entertaining
The dialogue is often wooden and cheesy. The actors uniformly bad, apart from the two main actors. As a result most of the conversations that take place lack a natural flow. Also, do not watch this movie for its technical merits. The score, in particular, is edited poorly, often times so out of place it is jarring.
Still, the action is effective and efficient, not beautifully choreographed, but with enough power that it delivers. The hero is never really challenged in the entire movie much like action movies of the 80s and it works because who doesn't want to root for an ex-con with a heart of gold.
The only other notable performance comes from the film's main antagonist who has a surprising amount of depth.
All in all, having the lowest expectations possible-Could this have a worse title?-, I was pleasantly surprised.
South Park: Obama Wins! (2012)
After probably the worst and most inconsistent season of South Park in Season 15, Season 16 has been a welcome return to form from South Park, and this last episode finishes it off nicely.
The episode starts off slowly but builds and builds introducing new plot lines and characters, some new and some old, all hilarious. I died of laughter when Mickey showed up. By the end of the episode, the sheer ridiculousness of it is wonderful.
The best episodes are usually the ones where the kids are being kids. While this isn't that completely, it balances that successfully with the satire.
Prepare to Laugh
HBO has done it again! After watching the first episode of The Newsroom and finishing up season 1 of both girls and Veep, hbo is looking better than ever.
Now about veep... If you like dry humor you are in for a treat. The acting is superb and the writing is creative and genius. The humor is very dependent on the situation, so it's best to pay full attention to appreciate the writing that much more. It is not as good as The Thick of It, but it is still pretty damn good.
