Deadly Skies (2006)
Editing for the UK DVD Release
Being a fan of Antonio I decided to purchase this DVD when it was released on DVD in the UK mid January 2006. The title used here is ULTIMATE LIMIT and gone are all the references to Antonio's character being gay. There is a glance between him and his co-worker that may have meant more in the original screening but that is now all. The movie was around 85 minutes long so I assume 5 minutes have been edited out. The movie ends with Antonion's supposedly single male character being joined at home by the female lead character to take their "working kiss" a little further. If this movie has a release under the original title with the original scenes, I may be tempted to buy again.
Skilda världar (1996)
Average daily soap
This series shown in various formats in Sweden 1996 - 2002 was an updated version of Australia's "Sons and Daughters" serial 1981 - 1987. The original was better. The Swedish version was a very close copy with a few alterations for local conditions and being 15 years later. The basic plot involved the meeting of two teenagers who fall in love only later discover that they had been separated at birth. The Bovallius and Toivonen families were based upon the Hamiltons and Palmers in the original. Skilda världar is repeated during the summers on TV4 and has been successfully sold to Norway's TV2. A more successful version "Verbotene Liebe" 1995 is still in production in Germany. The Swedish one was originally half hour episodes 4 or 5 nights each week exactly how Channel 7 in Australia aired the original. Strangely, being as it was TV4 Sweden's most successful show, they altered to weekly one hour episodes and the series had jumped on by one year. This was probably to accommodate the departure of several significant players. Why tinker with something that isn't broken?
Excellent quality Scandinavian TV
After living in Sweden for a period during 1998/99 I had grown accustomed to fairly good quality local made TV, allbeit there wasnt that much of it unfortunately. I had since heard that Mordkommissionen (Rejseholdet orig Danish title) had become must see TV for some Stockholm friends during its Swedish TV4 play. Luckily the series was out on DVD when I was there again during New Year 2003, so I took a chance and bought the whole lot. What an excellent buy! I have so far allowed myself to see the first 12 episodes which are by far better than any American crime series found on countless TV stations. I want to make it last so I have another 18 to watch over the next few months. What a treat this show is! I just wish that a UK channel would bother to even consider buying it, so that friends here can see it with English subtitles.
Well done DR TV on the probably the best non-English series I have seen!
