Second Best Paranormal Activity in the series.
If you watch the Paranormal Activity series as individual movies, they are above average ghost stories. However if your watch all of the movies in the series, you realize this is a much larger and very intricate story being told.
The thing that hurts this series is how people say "It's the scariest movie they have ever seen". Horror lovers like myself who have been watching horror movies for decades come out feeling ripped off because it is not the scariest movie ever.
Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of jump scares and creepy scenes to make it a fun ride. It's just not up to the hype some people build it up for.
This installation in the Paranormal Activity, it is a standalone story for the most part about possession of a young man in Southern California. It really has some fun scenes about why he allows the possession to occur and how it changes him. I LOVED ALL OF THE CAST. They were very entertaining.
My issue is with some of the dialogue during some of the scary scenes. I am so sick of the "what was that?" repeatedly being said when you know full well you just jumped waist deep into the supernatural. First time, fine. 8th or 9th time, just plain annoying.
The only time this movie makes any connection to the other movies is at the end and it's a great twist with many new pieces of information being presented,
It really seems like this franchise is building to something massive. Again, watch all the Paranormal Activity movies as a marathon and you will see what I mean. The Marked Ones is the second best in the series solely for expanding this universe and how far and wide this Paranormal Activity world really reaches.
Again. Don't buy the hype. It is not "the scariest movie of all time". It's incredibly fun flick to watch at home alone with the lights off. As a standalone movie, it's worth a watch. When combined with the rest of the series, you see this movie as something epic to come.
