The Lazarus Effect (2015)
It's not really horror. Suspense yes. It is not based on possession in the traditional use of the word, it's based on consequences of not facing inner scars, and how they can in fact possess us. It tries to show why evolution should be slow, steady, and shouldn't be forced.
It's basically a cautionary tale of playing God with an exploration into how society both shapes, and is important to our identity.
It's not religious, some what spiritual, no talk about demons. Which is what makes the film special. Though with the subject of life and death of course they have to have it riddled through out.
Lots, and lots of symbolism. You just have to watch for it. I really don't believe people see the beauty in this film for all the crap demon / ghost movies out there this is refreshing.
I will actually watch it again, which is rare now of days! I dare say I may even get more from it then I did the first time around.
It's not breathe taking but if you look at it from social science perspective and are in a reflective state - it sits quite well. I think for that it deserves a 10/10!
The Following (2013)
Best Series on Monday Night
This show is beyond brilliant. I am not a Kevin Bacon fan in the slightest. Actually I find him sometimes cringe worthy in his delivery's but he does have leading power when it comes to playing "Ryan Hardy" in "The Following". I originally watched because I thought Maggie Grace was going to be a regular and Kevin Williamson is a god as a Writer and a Producer but in honesty the series is at times brutal , compelling and moving. The relationship between the cult and Joe is very realistic and at time heart breaking. Williamson really makes you feel for these psychopaths yet he doesn't romanticize what they are doing as they do in Dexter. The killers know what they are doing (some more then others) is wrong but some how you feel for them BC they show the humanity (through flashbacks). The supporting cast is brilliant as well, Ashmore as Mike Weston who is my personal favorite as is Paul (Adan Canto) and Jacob (Nico Tortorella) these three people are all so human in there roles - Didn't know of Adan Canto but I will be checking out his other work after this, Nico who stared in Scream 4 (Kevin's squeal to his cult classic "Scream") has had by far the most interesting character development of the cast. and plays very strongly off of Adan Canto. Agent Parker (Annie Parisse) has the richest personal history on the Team Hunting Joes Cult. This is a must watch series I recommend getting it on demand the suspense in this show will make your heart skip.
