The storyline got Sabotaged
First things first, I'm a die hard Arnold fan - guilty as charged. That being so, this movie was still really weird to watch, and here is why:
1. Great Stuff from Arnold
Haven't seen Arnie in this kind of role. Dark, controversial, dead inside. He did his job really well whilst still being able to hit a few "Get Down" catchphrases here and there. This is not a dumbed down Arnold or a terminator like one, this is a very good role for him in which he delivers!
2. Bad humour is bad
As an action-like/drama/thriller movie, Sabotage would be able to get by without humour. It could certainly benefit from getting rid of that 12yo humour that is thrown at us at the beginning. "Who dropped ass"?- two times in 5 minutes. Really? There is that once scene in which they check the identities of those they killed, it made us all laugh. Nothing else really did!
3. Storyline where did you go?
This story had some serious potential to deliver a great, dark, action spectacle. Instead if will probably confuse and disappoint you with the transitions and twists that are really not believable. I was quite sad when the plot took such stupid turns. See it for yourself but it probably won't make much sense to you.
4. Blood and Gore
I'm all for some brains all over the place. Flying body parts here and there, bombs dropping, rockets flying, eyes popping. But this was borderline a bloodbath at times. And that by itself is not so bad if the storyline can cover it well. Needless to say that it did not!
So to conclude. This was, and always will be a movie that strives for great and settles for OK. I'm giving it 7 because this truly is an action packed movie in which Arnold does his job as good as he should.
Thor: The Dark World (2013)
This is not the Thor you're looking for
I'm going to be blunt, mainly because it's 5 am and I'm finally done watching this underwhelming movie.
I will start with the worst port which is the main villain. Malakith seems like a mere target practice for Thor even while super powerful. He will never ever strike you as a really dangerous bad guy...and that's because he isn't. His soldier Kurse seems to be more bad-ass than him. Such a waste of a bad guy.
The second bad thing is Loki. Yeah I know, people say that he is the best part...well he's both actually. Brilliant at times but severely overused. He makes the movie interesting but it gets annoying when you see that his side-story outshines the main "universe destroyer" by a mile.
Third part are the funny scenes and humor. It's good to have silly jokes here and there but there are SO MANY in this movie that you can't really take anything seriously. Darcy character should be funny but It really and utterly IS NOT.
All in all I wouldn't recommend this movie but it's not the worst I've seen. It will maybe make you laugh, possibly cry, and definitely feel nostalgic for THOR 1 which was way, way more clever.
Man of Steel (2013)
Could be worse, could be better
First of all, I would like to say just a few things about me watching this film. I'm not a big superman fan-boy, I like action movies A LOT, and I like Nolan's work on the Batman story.
That being said, Man of Steel was just so far away from his less- powerful DC friend.
Good sides: Henry Cavill really does look like Superman. He is muscular, his hairstyle is superman-like, and overall he gives the impression that you are indeed watching the mighty Kal-El.
The bad guy Zod (Michael Shannon) was great in the movie. Michael is a really good actor and he did very fine as a villain against superman.
Also the story at the beginning is serious, and yet otherworldly enough so you wouldn't think it is some kind of family drama doze-off movie.
Action parts have great effects, fighting sequences are intense and adrenaline rushes will happen while watching this.
Bad sides: This movie (for me personally) only has one bad side. Too much destruction and fighting in the second part.
Yes,yes I know. I wrote that I like action but when the storytelling part stops and fighting begins, it is just never ending. First few fights are just awesome. Everyone is super-strong, thing are just flying around, lasers, super-speed,blah blah blah.
But after a while it just gets boring. I remember after a while my friend turned to me and said: "Oh wow really?! They are going to do a big fight scene again." And that really is the biggest problem of this movie.
I don't feel that the Man of Steel - Superman should fall as a victim to another super-CGI packed movie and be presented as "great action" or "cool visual effects" I mean really guys? Do you want to spend your money watching everlasting action and blowing-up sequences? I recommend Expendables 2.
Superman has to have its fair share of action, but he, as a character, is so much more. Never killing anyone (which is possibly the side-effect of his ass kicking in this movie), always on the lookout, shinning example to every human being. While in this movie he is just a super- strong ass kicker with a bad childhood.
This is a good movie but......this is not a good SUPERMAN movie.
