What a movie
OK, Magnolia is definitely NOT for everyone. It has proven that. But, in my opinion, Magnolia is one of those artistic movies that i REALLY enjoyed.
Magnolia sets up with three stories of coincidence, which is the premise of this movie. It is all about coincidence. Which really reflects life itself, doesn't it?
All except the raining frogs, of course!
But what i am leading onto say is, is that this is a piece of art, and not everyone appreciates art, do they?
Those murders will plague me forever
For those of you who have not seen Se7en, i suggest you don't see it after a heavy meal. Why? Because the murders, where victims are chosen using the seven deadly sins, are, how shall i say it?... Rank.
And if you do watch it, watch out of the Sloth murder. I watched Se7en a couple of days ago and the Sloth murder is STILL freaking me out. And i don't mean every now and then, but i'm talking about ALL the time!
It is still an excellent film, but be prepared to be haunted by the visions they portray
Donnie Darko (2001)
How was such brilliance ever made?
Some people will disagree, but i think that films like Donnie Darko are only made once every so often. Sometimes a few excellent films come all at once, or there is a slight 'drought' before another one comes.
However, Donnie Darko is undoubtedly the best film i have seen (yet). Of course there are some films that are called classics which i haven't seen.
But this film blends a lot of genres in a way that i hardly ever seen before. American Beauty, for example, is another excellent film. That ONLY blended comedy and drama. Donnie Darko, however, blends comedy, drama, sci-fi and fantasy, to say the least.
Now, this film is not for the faint-hearted, and NOT everyone will like it.
So, for the time being, i bid you farewell.
Honogurai mizu no soko kara (2002)
The 1st Japanese film i have ever seen.
As this is the 1st Japanese film i have ever seen, i have to say that i am impressed.
Hideo Nakata worked as a genius on this film. His visual style is unequaled, without a doubt.
A lot of English-speaking residents are put off by films in foreign languages, but after seeing this film, i am thankful that i saw it, and i am inspired to see other foreign language films, especially Japanese films.
For those of you who don't like foreign language films, this film (Dark Water) is being remade by Hollywood. It would probably be worse than this original, but interesting all the same.
