Above all, this is a personal archive for myself & it seemed easier to do it on IMDb than to write it all down.
Yoga Hosers (2016)
Review by a big time Kevin Smith fan.
I have been a fan of Kevin Smith since 'Clerks', he's always done a great job of making me laugh, 'Dogma' is my favourite comedy, and I think 'Red State' is a very underrated thriller.
I went into 'Yoga Hosers' with a similar mentality to that of how I went into 'Tusk', which I enjoyed by the way. I started watching the movie thinking, okay, this will probably be pretty average, nothing special, but there will probably be some saving grace that makes me like the movie, that didn't happen.
There was pretty much no story for the first half of the movie, and then when the story did start to arise, it was utterly ridiculous, and not even in an entertaining/funny way. The movie was filled with terrible Canadian accents, not that would make you laugh, but that would make you cringe. The only times in the movie I genuinely laughed was from Tony Hale's & Justin Long's performances, who were barely in the movie, so my laughs were limited.
It seemed as if there were a few moments where they decided to leave the beginning of some bloopers in the movie, because it showed some form of decent acting, because they were genuine reactions. The whole film just seemed like an excuse to put Smith's daughter & Depp's daughter in a movie. The silly & outright bad story just seem seemed like a way to get away with releasing a terrible film.
This is the first Smith film I have disliked, I can't defend him on this one, The whole movie is just a mind numbing, non-adventure.
Bound to Vengeance (2015)
I usually hate most forms of reviews, especially the negative ones because movies are above all subjective. So this is purely in my opinion and needs to be taken with a grain of salt.
When it comes to the acting in this film, in my opinion it was pretty damn good. But some of the decisions Eve (The lead character) makes are just straight up dumb.
For example when she first escapes she immediately runs outside, sees that there is not a single house or road in site, but still makes the decision to scream for help (which for obvious reasons wouldn't help much), and on the off chance Phil (The captor) escapes, he would now know where she is.
But for me the biggest mistake Eve makes is getting Phil to help her find his other victims so she can help them escape. At that point in the film she already had the keys to the van. For me at least, it seems logical to take the van and drive to the nearest police station or phone & call the police & get them to interrogate Phil and get the location of the girls, and the police could probably handle rescuing them a little better. With Eve staying she is keeping herself in danger and doing a pretty terrible job of helping to other victims.
I know that if that decision wasn't made the movie wouldn't even exists because it would be over immediately, But it seems to me that it wouldn't really be a big loss.
I am a big fan of this film.
I liked this movie very much, it shows well how someone who is always wronged can eventually not be able to cope anymore.
The acting in this film was very good & believable, I recommend this film to anyone.
The effects in the film are also very well done, Props to everyone working on this film, they did a fantastic job. The film itself I guess was pretty short and I think if it went for longer we could have built a deeper connection with the characters
I give this film a 7 out of 10, I think the only really negative thing about it I think is the ending, I can't quite put my finger on it, but for some reason it just didn't feel right, but still an absolutely great movie.
