pseudo snuff at its finest
This is it! This is what we've been waiting for. A pseudo snuff film that delivers on every single level. A truly unrelenting, gory trip that just keeps packing the punches for the entire 73 minute run-time, and leaves you awestruck even after the credits are done rolling. Back when I first heard that there was going to be an American re-boot of the classic 'Guinea Pig' series, I was immediately intrigued. There have been countless gore flicks produced over the years, and as a result of this, many fans have become jaded. Bouquet of Guts and Gore takes those films and rams them down your throat. This film has successfully brought a new lease of life to the gore genre, and will surely impress even the most hardcore of fans. The special effects featured are utterly mind-blowing. Oddtopsy F/X did an incredible job and the carnage looks totally genuine, a rare quality seen in 'gore' films. I found myself amazed by just how realistic they managed to make this look, and I loved it! I'm sure many people that watch this will question whether it's authentic, and that's exactly the response that effects of this quality deserve. Stephen Biro, king of 'Unearthed Films' has set the standard very high for any future fake snuff films, and it'll definitely be a real challenge for anyone to create anything to even a similar standard. For a debut film, they don't come better than this. The aesthetics are stunning, and the use of 'film' and 'vhs' gives it a great texture and raw sensation that was, at times reminiscent of the renowned classic 'Last House on Dead End Street'. The uneasy camera work also contributed endlessly to its gritty nature. I felt like I was watching an authentic snuff film, that had been found after years of being hidden away, and we all know that's not easily achieved. I also need to give due credit to the cast. Everyone nailed their roles, and I felt really attached to each and every one of them. Frank Pickarelli (aka Eig8t The Chosen One) stole the show as 'The Actor' though. He's destined to become a true horror icon and really deserves all the attention and praise he gets. When watching his performance, "I had to change my underwear"... he was just too good and perfectly suited to the role. This is a sick, twisted and amazing film, and I remained engrossed throughout. I also felt a great degree of anticipation to see what was to come next. I hate to admit it, but personally I wasn't actually disgusted by the film like I had expected to be. The film is depraved, there's no denying it, and I'm' sure the vast majority of viewers would struggle to stomach what is featured. But when watching, I saw more than just an attempt to sicken the viewer. There was so much more to it than just that, and without wanting to sound pretentious it was very artistic. I'm unsure whether it was intentional, but I actually found the film somewhat amusing at times (feel free to judge me), and that was largely due to the dialogue. In my eyes there was definitely a well proportioned element of black (and I mean very black) humour, that helped balance the flick perfectly.
9/10 for being an immensely impressive film that has immediately become one of my most highly regarded flicks. I'm so excited to see the controversy this film will stir and I can't wait for the next AGP instalment: 'Bloodshock'.
a stunning film, well worth a watch
if you're reading this, then the chances are that you're into lower budget, independent horror films. this is a perfect example of how well a horror movie can be made on an extremely limited budget. i'll caution any (potential) viewers by stating that there is some pretty brutal violence, the vast majority of which takes place in a film within the film: HEADLESS (which has now been made and will be available on DVD/blu-ray shortly). the violence is unrelenting when it takes place, so don't dive into this film if you're sensitive to gore. having got that out of the way, the style of the film is just AMAZING!!!! its one of the few films i've watched recently that's really drawn me in. i especially loved the atmosphere, it genuinely felt like an older horror film which really added to the viewing pleasure... especially the HEADLESS film footage (a supposed 'lost film' from 1978). acting was top notch, and beats the h3ll out of the majority of modern films that have grown to depend on Hollywood stars and a multi-million dollar budget, rather than originality and the 'guts' to do something new. i must applaud Scott Schirmer, the director on managing to create such a brilliant film, and i cannot wait to watch HEADLESS (which is supposedly the most brutal and disturbing film made).
a homage to "no reason"
WOW!!! WARNING: THIS IS NOT WHAT YOU THINK IT'S GOING TO BE!!! after watching this weirdly wonderful movie it took me around ten minutes to gather myself. in the end i came to the conclusion that if you watch this movie then what ever you don't think. it'll just jumble up your head even more. everything in this movie has no point. as i am sat here i am thinking what else to say. and i honestly cant think of anything else other than watch it, give it a break and then watch it again. by the way this movie's screenplay was written within the space of one month and then shot in two weeks. i hope this has helped you in deciding whether you going to watch this extraordinary movie or not.
Lat sau san taam (1992)
john woo's masterpiece
with a body count of 307 in two hours you pretty much know whats coming you way. but amongst all of the action there is actually some pretty good acting.
this is one hell of a lot better than john woo's broken arrow which must have been his own personal embarrassment, with a score of just 5.8 i don't recommend you watch it.
the action in this masterpiece is unbeatable, bodies dropping, bullets soaring, it is all incredibly well stylised.
in my opinion hard boiled is even better that face/off and might just overtake the killer.
if i could mark higher than 10/10 i would but unfortunately thats just not possible.
thanks for reading
squeal piggy, squeal
one of the most stunning things ever created by mortal man. directed by none other than John Boorman (excalibur) and starring brilliant actors Burt Reynolds (smokey and the bandit), Jon Voight (the champ) Ned Beatty (superman) and Ronny Cox (robocop).
the story consists of four men who instead of going out playing golf decide to go on a trip down the fictional Cahulawassee river, hints the tagline 'this is the weekend they didn't play golf'. anyway they make their way down the river and bump into a couple of flea bitten hill billies.
all performances were exceptional. once i had watched it i knew it was my favourite film. everything about this movie is perfect, from the acting to the scenery, beginning to end.
this movie is an adaptation of the book deliverance by James Dickey who also wrote the screenplay for the movie. i am yet to read it but i truly hope it is as good as the film.
so watch it and enjoy it, hopefully as much as i did, and watch out for the duelling banjos between Ronny Cox and a very simple minded hill billie.
The Evil Dead (1981)
low budget horror at its blistering best!
i oblige you to watch this movie.
Sam Raimi, cult horror director has made me proud, made on a budget of only $375,000 this movie is top of the range grindhouse. Bruce Campbell makes a brilliant leader in this movie. i watched this expecting to see some terrible acting and rubbish effects and thats pretty much what i got. but it works... trust me.
Campbell stars as a pretty normal young man, who when he encounters life endangering problems has to adapt to survive. this is a film that every one should watch in some stage of their life, preferably not at the age of ten though.
this is by far the best horror film I've watched in the last year and as soon as i had finished watching i knew i had to watch the others... the sequels are called evil dead II and army of darkness.
as this is an old horror, low budget movie it is relatively hard to come by. the best place to find these films are specialist stores such as HMV.
the first and second of the films don't link at all, but the second and third do.
these are very comical movies and i think there's a bit of comedy for everyone, so get to the nearest specialist store to you and by them. you WONT regret it.
Rodriguez, Banderas, Hayek, brilliant
absolutely amazing, this has to be one of Rodriguez's best movies along with his more recent ones, machete and planet terror. his movies have made TV more than worth watching! and i would rank him with such directors as Tarantino (reservoir dogs, pulp fiction, death proof) and maybe even martin Scorsese (taxi driver, gangs of new york). i wont give too much of the story away other than there's this guy with a guitar case full of guns, played by Banderas. there are also a number of other brilliant actors that Rodriguez has worked with before that star in this flick, such as Cheech Marin and Tarantino. this film takes you on a wild ride of guns and amazing explosions, including a rather bizarre gun that looks like a mens genitals, which is also seen in from dusk till dawn. this movie has one of the best soundtracks that i can recall with as everyone knows is essential in a good film so i'll leave you to have your mind blown, enjoy!
a killer, watch it
hilarious, absolutely brilliant. i wont give any of the plot away as that would just be tight. but what i will say is that this is grade A entertainment. i bought this on DVD the day it was released to DVD and i cant say i didn't get what i was looking for, violence, nudity and some bad language. this feature is a follow on from the 2007 grindhouse featuring Planet Terror** and Death Proof**, a fake trailer was made of this, just like Hobo with a shotgun which i am very much looking forward to. this is Danny Trejos first main appearance in a movie, i cant say he changed his emotion at all, but that all adds to how great it is, being a tribute to 70s-80s grindhouse movies, which in my eyes are some of the best works ever. so if your just looking for an over the top, shoot em up movie then your in the right place. your soul commands you watch this movie. enjoy!
