Band of Brothers (2001)
Really great series!
Now... I'm not usually a type of person who loves war movies and stuff. Most of the time I find that they just shoot and blow things up. But my boyfriend bought this miniseries and began to watch it - I watched it with him, and it's really well done! It has given me a lot to think about, and most probably because it's so realistically done. Nothing is hidden - you see everything, as it were back then; when people are shot, they don't hide blood or wounds from the viewer. You see everything, you are with the men through all their experiences; when they talk in the foxholes, you get to know how important the medics were. I never thought they did so much for the injured, but every time something happens, they call for their medic, who comes and does his best to help the wounded. I have learned a lot about World War II from this series, a lot of things I never knew or guessed. I felt with the men, what they had to go through. All while thinking "this actually happened", I just feel how horrible it must have been.
There's an episode, where Winters gets a little time off, and is sent to Paris to relax. He comes just from the cold and real war, to this city where people just live and have normal lives, they have fun and enjoy a night out. And it must seem so strange to Winters, who came from a place where people were killed and injured, where dreadful things were happening - and then to Paris, where all seemed to be calm.
And like I said, so realistic. The Easy Company come to a KZ-camp, where they find a lot of dead bodies and a few survivors. Just to think, how it must have been to come and find such a place... see those horrors. That really just had me thinking. Of course I've learned about it all in school, but this made me understand it so much better...
all in all, I'm glad that my boyfriend bought this miniseries. I recommend it to everyone, not just people who like war movies and stuff, but also people who never thought about it. See this, and learn!
Sin City (2005)
Loved this movie
I went to the cinema yesterday to see this movie. I thought the trailer looked great, but when I read the storyline it didn't sound as great. But then I saw the movie - and I simply LOVED every bit of it...
Usually I watch blockbusters or other "great" movies, and this is definitely something different. I haven't read the comics - but I loved it. Just the way it's filmed, the way it's black/white except for a bit of red/green/blue and in the end yellow. The lines and the storytelling was cool, and yeah, that's the only word to describe this movie, cool and tough. I am almost sure most of the people in the cinema loved it. We laughed at the same times, leaned forward in the seat at the same times, everyone was taken into the movie, feeling with the characters and the great touch...
I recommend this movie, to anyone who knew it from before and who did. Yes, there is "blood", nudity and LOTS of violence, but it's in such a cool way, that you don't think about, it just belongs, it has to be there because that's the way it is. You accept it, that is how the story is. And that's what makes it great...
The Company of Wolves (1984)
One of the most strange werewolf-movies I've seen - but good!
When I read on the back of the cover, the movie seemed interesting. I have a thing for very strange movies, and I loved this one. I love how many of the old folklore-myths about wolves and werewolves have been written into this movie. I think it was easy to predict the ending, but that is maybe because I was able to put myself in Rosaleen's place - and I love wolves and werewolves and folklore-tales, so this movie and it's plot was perfect for me.
I recommend it to anyone who loves werewolves, who loves movies that don't have action all the time, but leaves a space to think. And it makes you watch it, because what will happen in the end? The only thing I would like to have seen more of, was Rosaleen's real life - we only see her sleep, so we're not really getting to know her very much. The only links we have to about how she is, is how her parents and her sister talks about her in the beginning. But otherwise a very good and interesting movie - I recommend it! :)
One of the best pirate movies made
I already loved this movie before I saw it. I didn´t know it was made because of something in a Disneyland, I just saw it for the movie´s sake. I love pirate movies, also like Cutthroat Island and all those great movies. So I wouldn´t want to miss this one.
I think Orlando Bloom is a bit sad in his role, he´s not very interesting or anything, he´s just being himself, almost like when he played Legolas. As for Keira Knightley, she played very good, but we knew how it was going to end when the movie began and she found Will Turner. Geoffrey Rush is great as the "evil" pirate, Barbossa, in the movie, but they never seem to fail that role. And for the best character in the movie, Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow, he´s got his best role ever. He´s just perfect as the pirate who´s always a bit drunk but still knows just what he´s doing. Fun sayings from him, and his character makes the movie great. He is the reason this movie is so great, and I´m not just saying this because I like Johnny Depp. Other great things in the movie is Barbossa and his men, when they turn into the dead pirates in the moonlight... they look really... real, but somehow they still manage to bring in a bit of humour, so I won´t call it horror.
So I recommend that you see this movie if you like a REAL pirate tale, and you´re not afraid to cross blades with a pirate like Jack Sparrow...
