King Kong (2005)
Could be the definitive Kong.
I know the "purists" would scoff at this, but IMO, this is possibly the definitive King Kong film.
A few reasons: 1. Scenes from the original script not used in the original movie: Yes, that wicked, evil CGI that people whine about. It allowed for scenes in the remake that were not in the original. It's not the tool, it's how you use it.
2. Jackson's changes to the story: Yes, scenes like the bittersweet "ice-skating" sequence. The addition of some smart humor also made the buildup to finally seeing Kong more entertaining than the original.
"I'm someone you can trust. I'm a movie producer."
3. Andy Serkis: Quite possibly the best motion actor currently working in Hollywood. The man behind Gollum does a superb job playing the legendary ape.
Really, my only complaint is the swearing.
Mr. Jackson, you did not need it in the Lord of the Rings films, and it was not necessary here.
