Don't look at the negative reviews
Please, everyone should give this movie a chance. People give Monsters a bad score for what its not and not what it is. It's fantastic when you look at how real and engrossing the world is. It does have a slow pace but it works well for the movie If you want pace watch some big things blow up somewhere else, just don't expect a memorable story. I suggest Michael Bay.
Some say the movie has no plot but it does. You get a romance tale in a beautiful sci-fi world.
The movie also questions survival and whether or not the predator is really the predator. The "creatures" do harm but their relationship with the humans becomes much more complicated than that. More complicated than say Aliens.
The movie starts with a flash-forward of an airstrike on a "creature" who by the end of the movie you find out is completely harmless. The humans are also producing chemicals that wipe out trees and vegetation. The "creatures" need the trees to survive because they have a kind of symbiotic relationship with them.
The "creatures" and humans are both never considered to me monsters because that is the theme of the movie. Its for the viewer to decide who the monster really is. It becomes increasing apparent, however, that Monsters of the title is describing the humans.
What is not to like.
By the end everything comes together and it is quite emotional.
So if someone gave this movie a bad score its because they missed the above.
