a list of 1,000 titles
Basically, these films, which I rated 8.5 or above based on my own personal criteria and have had the greatest impact on me, are the reason why I love cinema and being a cinephile. This is not the typical blockbuster-based nor English-based list, this is a very eclectic list, but not random. This list is in order and I took special care of selecting each film listed below. There are several countries and several languages, old films and contemporary films, and different genres. Feature films, short films, documentaries and mini-series. Finally, I decided to exclude music dramas and concerts.

A couple of examples of the kind of films you will find here:

· Art-house films
· Avant-garde films
· Bizarre films
· Black comedy films
· Cinéma-vérité films
· Coming-of-age films
· Crime/Mob/Gangster films (not only the American ones)
· Existential films
· Experimental films
· Image/Visual driven films
· Indie films
· Iranian new wave films
· Japanese films (especially, Japanese period drama films)
· Magical realist films
· Metafilms
· Mind-blowing films
· Mind-twisting films
· Music/Musical films
· Nouvelle vague films
· Passionate, tragic, auto-destructive love stories
· Psychedelic films
· Psychological horror films
· Religious/Spiritual/Christian films (especially, when they talk about faith)
· Samurai films
· Slice-of-life films
· Space films
· Social realist films
· Spanish civil war films (Post-war and Francoism included)
· Subtle comedies
· Subversive films
· Surreal films
· Zombie films

I don't tend to like:

· Blockbusters
· Bollywood films (although I usually like Aamir Khan's films)
· Film-noir films
· Films offensive to Christians
· Hollywood films (even the old ones, which seem to be getting more dated and less appealing to me)
· Mainstream films
· Superhero films
· Western films

So, they will be underrepresented or not represented.

P.S. Questions, comments and suggestions are welcomed.

Note: My previous list (http://www.imdb.com/list/XqrpBbhmslg/) was blacklisted because I added one non-adult Polish film (Żuławski's Szamanka) that is considered, incorrectly, as an adult film by IMDb. So, I decided, to create a new IMDb list, which was quite annoying. Be very careful if you add that film to your list, because it might be banned.
