Velvet Buzzsaw (2019)
Failure to Wow
For a movie about art, the colour is certainly washed out, both physically and metaphorically.
The cinematography is lacklustre and the editing is horrendous.
There's nothing special about this movie and it fails to execute a slow burn of tension, there's no burn at all. It's disjointed, characters mention being affected by the paintings but we fail to see how, there's no build up.
The acting is sub-par too. And there are some great actors here, but it doesn't feel like they're giving it their all, the performances fell flat, and the characters were one dimensional.
None of the actors have any chemistry together, they feel stiff and disjointed.
It could have been a really clever film with deep themes or satirical take on the pretentiousness of the art world, but it turned into a generic supernatural horror which could have been just as easily achieved with a B rated cast and budget.
Such a waste of talent on this drivel. Especially John Malkovich, his character wasn't required at all and nothing came of him.
The only good things about this movie are the title, and Toni Collette.
A Simple Favor (2018)
Hot Mess trying to be Gone Girl
This movie was very cliché and you could spot the twists coming from a mile away.
The pacing was all off and was very rushed in some parts, the story not holding together well.
It's trying to be Gone Girl but failed miserably.
The plot was too convoluted and there was no real build up in the story or the characters, and the clues were sprinkled to give hints at the twists but they could be seen a mile away.
It was just an awful hot mess.
I think it started off well but quickly derailed.
None of the characters are likeable or relatable. You think Stephanie is and then boom, in a matter of days she suddenly becomes this whole other person just for the sake of the plot.
There was no real character growth and it didn't feel natural at all.
This whole story might have worked well in a book (I haven't read it so can't attest to it), as the pacing is different, but for a movie, it was just horrible.
Under the Dome (2013)
Worst Adaptation Ever Imaginable
If you're a fan of the book, then do not watch this show at all! This show takes the storyline, characters, EVERYTHING, flips it upside down, shakes it around violently until it's not even the book it originally was.
Everything is different. Everything. Except for the name of the town, Chester's Mill, they changed everything else. From minor to major things, but all aren't like they are in the book and it's very disheartening.
I absolutely loved the book and everything about it and was in tears watching the first episode, wondering how these TV show makers could butcher Mr. King's work like this, and even worse, how he could just sit there as an Executive Producer and let them do this.
It is horrible and dreamed, when reading the book, how amazing a show of it would be. But this isn't the show and it breaks my heart.
I never thought it was possible to screw something up this much, but these people have done it. Bravo, bravo. You idiots ruined something fantastic.
