What are you all talking about?! It was pretty good!
I blame myself. I read all the critics and a lot of the reviews here on IMDb. I believed Gothika was a poor movie, so tonight when I went to see it I wasn't expecting much. I enjoyed it! Halle Berry is wonderful and even Robert Downey Jr. was great (I wish his character had a bit more to do on screen, however).
I gave this movie an 8 out of 10. It was worth every buck I paid to see it. Don't be expecting Oscar-worthiness. The film is there to entertain, to scare; it achieves these goals.
Bottom line: if you enjoyed (come on admit it!) The Sixth Sense or The Ring the first time around, Gothika is for you.
Freaky Friday (2003)
More Than I Thought It Would Be
I dismissed this movie, having not been pleased with any of Disney's latest works (save Pirates of the Caribbean). Rather fortunately, I was persuaded to see it with a friend and I was pleasantly surpised.
I knew the storyline and I had seen the very cute version from 1976 with Jodie Foster. While that one has its merits, so does this newest version. The story is brilliantly made modern and is full of wit and charm.
Jamie Lee Curtis seems made for this role as does Lindsay Lohan. Both seamlessly blend from teenager to middle-aged as they switch roles. I also enjoyed Chad Michael Murray's role as Lindsay's love interest.
Judging by the audience's reaction when I saw it, everyone was loving it; children and adults alike. I'd highly recommend this movie to anyone.
A Must Own
Writing his own songs, playing guitar, and conversing with his audience through his music, John Mayer has proved that he is capable of much more than 'Your Body is a Wonderland'. Any critic worthy of hearing should see 'Any Given Thursday' before they fully make their minds up about John.
AGT is a taped performance of one of John's concerts. It's almost better than being front center at a concert (better only because you can pause and get up for snacks without missing a thing). He plays nearly all of his songs live (and wonderfully) as well as some new ones.
AGT is one of my most prized DVDs and a must-see for any music fan.
