I Confess (2012)
A Film That Raises Interesting Questions
It's impossible to deny how realistic the theme's of I Confess are in today's society. Despite huge steps forward in recent years homosexuality is still an awkward subject for some.
The situation that Joe and Lee find themselves in in I Confess is one that some people fear being in. The "Don't ask don't tell" system doesn't help. As we see in this film, not wanting to be persecuted for his sexuality but also not wanting to lie about it causes Lee to confess about being gay. The fact that he feels this way about it at all should make us all question our prejudices.
On the other hand Joe is also made to feel uncomfortable by Lee's confession. It makes him assume that Lee has a motive and has been lying to him. Why would he think this? But it must be said that we all know that this is a common reaction to that situation.
Why is this acceptable?
