Apollo 18 (2011)
When I first saw a trailer for Apollo 18, I was genuinely excited to see it. What horror film could top the Blair Witch Project? Blair Witch on the moon. Unfortunately, this is not just Blair Witch on the moon, it is Blair Witch on the moon without any of the character development, suspense or plot.
The previews tell you everything you need to know about the premise: there was an 18th moon mission that was kept secret from the public for whatever reason and, while on the moon, something goes wrong. As it turns out, that is the entire film. There is no side plot, no spectacular twist, no amazing special effects and no real payoff. Extraordinarily enough, the finale (or the compete lack thereof) is possibly the most disappointing thing about Apollo 18. Despite having one of the most ridiculous villains in the history of film, it manages to be extraordinarily predictable.
I cannot understand how anybody could enjoy this movie and, quite frankly, I am skeptical as to whether or not anybody actually did. It makes far more sense that every good review you read was written by somebody who stands to profit from the success of the film or takes pleasure in the suffering of the film's victims.
