My hobby is watching and collecting movies on VHS and DVD. On 17 June 2003, I found the IMDB site through an indication of a friend. My first review was "Anazapta" and since then, when I finish watching a movie, I write my personal opinion about it.
I am eclectic, but my genre number 1 is horror. I see between 800 and 900 movies per year, including TV series ("Sex and the City", "Angel", "Buffy", "Six Feet Under", "Lost" etc.).
My favorite movie is "Casablanca" and it is hard to point out my favorite director, actor and actress. I usually do not read any review before seeing a movie, in order to be not influenced by the critics.
I am trying to list my favorite movies alphabetically ordered, but this list may change:

Fringe: The Equation (2008)
One of the Best and Most Mysterious Episodes
While driving home in a rainy night with his son Ben, Andrew Stockton stops his car to help a woman to call the tow truck. He decides to inspect the engine and when he opens the hood, he sees red and green lights blinking on the engine. He enters in a hypnotic trance and awakes with the tow truck driver, finding that Ben was kidnapped. Agent Dunham learns that a couple of talented men have been abducted in the past and returned completely insane and the boy is a musical genius. Dr. Walter Bishop recalls that the inmate Dashiell Kim in Saint Claire had had the same bad experience and killed his beloved wife later. Olivia tries to visit Dashell, but Dr. Sumner does not allow her to go since she is a stranger to him. But he accepts that Dr. Bishop meets Dashiell. Will the scientist accept to return to Saint Claire to save the boy?
"The Equation" is one of the best and most mysterious episodes of "Fringe". Unfortunately it is not disclosed the big picture of the scheme. Indeed the conclusion is deceptive. John Noble has another excellent performance. My vote is nine.
Title (Brazil): "The Equation"
Unoriginal, Pointless and Awful
In 1976, on the eve of Halloween, an itinerant troupe is forced to stop their truck and attacked by strangers. Charly (Sheri Moon Zombie), Venus Virgo (Meg Foster), Panda Thomas (Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs), Levon Wally (Kevin Jackson) and Roscoe Pepper (Jeff Daniel Phillips) survive. They are forced to participate in a sadistic game called "31" for 12 hours, and whoever survives will be released. Soon they are attacked by sadistic killers dressed like clowns. Will someone survive to the "31"?
"31" is an unoriginal pointless awful slasher with an absurd and stupid story. The greatest challenge is not for the group forced to participate, but for the viewer to see this film until the very end. The only thing good to see is the veteran cast with Malcolm McDowell, Judy Geeson ("To Sir with Love") and Meg Foster ("They Live"). Unfortunately they are wasted in a poor story and screenplay. It is better off watching "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" again. My vote is two.

Surprisingly Funny and Entertaining
The clumsy Cooper (Christopher Marquette) is called by his chief Maureen (Deborah Geffner) to be fired from his job. Out of the blue, they hear a shrill noise and they faint. When Cooper wakes up, the finds wrapped in a cocoon and sees a giant insect. He succeeds to escape and release Maureen. They find that the city has been taken over by giant insects and Maureen runs to the street to save her daughter Sara (Brooke Nevin). However a flying insect captures Maurren and Cooper and Sara runs to his office. They release a group from the cocoons and the strong Hugo (E. Quincy Sloan) that is deaf; the sexy and dumb weather girl Cindy (Kinsey Packard); and the janitor Albert (Wesley Thompson) decide to cross the street to visit Albert's son that is sick; Cindy's family; and finally Cooper's estranged father Ethan (Ray Wise). Cooper hits on Sara and when an insect catches her, he decides to go to their nest to rescue Sara and blow-up the structure. Will he succeed?
"Infestation" is a surprisingly funny and entertaining action film. The characters are stereotypes and the hero Cooper is an asshole; Sara is smart; Cindy is a dumb blonde; Hugo is a heartwarming strong man; Ethan is the stereotype of a military. The special effects are much better than anyone could expect. There is no conclusion; probably for a sequel that has not been made. My vote is six.

Maybe the Best Episode
Travis is walking with Chris and they find a car. While Travis fix the car, Chris goes to a restaurant to scavenge water and supplies. He overhears voices, finds a can of beans and water and kills a zombie, saving the life of a young man. Then he runs to the car and he flees with Travis. When they run out of gas, they decide to spend the night in the wilderness. During the night, three young men arrive and invite Chris and Travis to eat with them. On the next morning, Chris and Travis travel with the group to the next town; however Chris sees a farm and they stop to seek supplies. Travis suggests Chris to stay with him in the farm but he refuses. Then something happens. Meanwhile Alicia can not find Ofelia but meets Elena, a former employee of the hotel that locked dozens of guests in a room with infected to save the other guests in the hotel. She is seeking out her nephew Hector and teams up with Alicia to find Ofelia, Hector, Madison and Strand.
"Do Not Disturb" is maybe the best episode of "Fear the Walking Dead". The annoying Travis and Chris are back and their segment is dramatic and not bad. Now Travis has finally seem who is son is. The segment with Alicia and Elena is full of action, but needs an explanation how Madison and Strand escape from the besiegement of zombies. My vote is seven.

The Children (2008)
Gore and Tense, but Something Is Missing to Be a Great Horror Film
Elaine (Eva Birthistle), her second husband husband Jonah (Stephen Campbell Moore), her teenage daughter Casey (Hannah Tointon) and her children Miranda (Eva Sayer) and Paulie (William Howes) travel to the isolated house of her sister Chloe (Rachel Shelley) to spend the New Year with her family. They are welcomed by Chloe, her husband Robbie (Jeremy Sheffield) and their children Nicky (Jake Hathaway) and Leah (Rafiella Brooks). Casey is upset since she will miss a party and Paulie vomits, but his parents believe he is sick because of the travel. During the night, Nicky and Leah become also sick and Leah vomits something strange. Along the day, the other children become also infected and Miranda attacks Chloe. Robbie brings the other children to play in the snow and while riding in a sledge, Nicky puts some tools in the way and Robbie dies with the impact on his head. Soon the children attack the adults and Casey and her mother seeks shelter. Will someone survive?
"The Children" is a gore horror film with a story that does not explain why only the children are affected by some mysterious virus that make them violent against adults. The plot is tense but gives the sensation that something is missing to make "The Children" a great horror movie. The open conclusion makes the viewer wondering whether Casey is also infected or not. My vote is five.

Despite the Stupidities, One of the Best Episodes of this Terrible Second Season
Nick accidentally sees a ceremony where a man is sacrificed in the village being eaten by the zombies. Then he is assigned to go with Luciana to a supermarket controlled by drug-dealers to bring water and some supplies. Then he learns that Alejandro was bitten by a zombie and survived, and has found a sect that worship the dead. Meanwhile Strand, Madison, Alicia and Ofelia finds that Abigail is gone. They seek shelter in a huge hotel and while Alicia and Ofelia scavenge the rooms for food and supplies, Madison and Strand get drunken. Out of the blue, they discover that they are not alone.
"Los Muertos" is one of the best episodes of this terrible Second Season, despite all the stupidities. At least the viewer get rid of Daniel, Chris and Travis. On the Nick side, the guy is completely crazy: he witnesses weird sect; steals from dangerous criminals and challenges them; and stays in a group of fanatic people. How the gang of drug-dealers does not know where the village is? On Madison side, they make noise as if they were in a safe place to attract a herd of zombies. Amazing! My vote is seven.

Murder, My Sweet (1944)
Complex and Mysterious Story
The private detective Philip Marlowe (Dick Powell) is hired by the violent and stupid Moose Malloy (Mike Mazurki) to seek out his former girlfriend Velma Valento. Moose spent eight years in prison and lost contact with her. Marlowe goes to the night-club where Velma worked but the owner died years ago; then he visits the widow that tells that she does not know Velma. However Marlowe finds a photo of Velma and the woman says that she is dead. On the next morning, Marlowe is visited in his office by a man called Lindsay Marriott (Douglas Walton) and he offers US$ 100 to Marlowe work as his bodyguard in an isolated area where he will pay an amount to retrieve stolen jewels. However things go wrong and Marriott is killed and Marlowe is hit on the head and faints. Marlowe goes to the police station to report the murder; the detectives ask if he knows a man called Jules Amthor (Otto Kruger) and to stay away from the man. Marlow meets Ann Grayle (Anne Shirley) in his office asking about the murder posing as a reporter. She brings him home and introduces his wealthy old father Leuwen Grayle (Miles Mander) and his young wife Helen Grayle (Claire Trevor) to him. Marlowe learns that a rare and expensive jade necklace was stolen from Helen when she was dancing with Marriott and Leuwen hires him to retrieve the jewel. When Marlowe is leaving the house, he stumbles upon Amthor. Then Moose forces Marlowe to go to Amthor's house and he drugs Marlowe trying to find where the necklace is. When Marlowe succeeds to escape, he starts to think to solve the puzzle. Who might have stolen the jade necklace? What happened with Verna Valento?
"Murder, My Sweet" is a complex film-noir with a mysterious detective story. The plot has many details and the viewer must pay attention to them. The plot begins with the private detective Philip Marlowe seeking out a vanished girl; switches to the investigation of a stolen jade necklace; and ends entwining the investigations. The romantic conclusion is entertaining. My vote is seven.

Fear the Walking Dead: Grotesque (2016)
The Nonsense Quest of Nick
The parched and famished Nick wanders through the desert trying to find a place where the dead are not monsters. In flashbacks, he recalls part of his past; stumbles upon dangerous hunters; is bitten by a ferocious dog; and walks with a herd of zombies. In the end, he finds sanctuary.
"Grotesque" is another terrible episode of this awful series. After getting rid of Daniel and Chris, the general expectation was for a great show. However. the intriguing point is how the director Daniel Sackheim was capable to spend 44 minutes running time in episode instead of 5 or 10 minutes max. The nonsense quest of Nick for a place where the dead are not monsters is from a sick man and senseless. The greatest problem of "Fear the Walking Dead" are the writers and the best they can do is finish this awful show. My vote is five.
Title (Brazil): "Grotesque"
In Los Angeles, the insurance executive John Forbes (Dick Powell) is a family man bored with his routine suburban life with his wife Sue (Jane Wyatt) and their son Tommy (Jimmy Hunt). When a man called Bill Smiley (Byron Barr) is arrested for embezzlement, Forbes hires the private investigator J.B. MacDonald (Raymond Burr) to find where the money is. MacDonald discovers that Smiley spent part of the money giving gifts to his girlfriend Mona Stevens (Lizabeth Scott) and becomes obsessed with her. Forbes goes to Mona's apartment to collect the gifts and he does not tell that he is married. Soon they have a brief love affair until Mona learns that his married with child. Meanwhile MacDonald unsuccessfully tries to seduce Mona that becomes friend of Forbes. When Smiley is near to be released, MacDonald poisons him against Forbes and on the day that Smiley is discharge, he gives a gun to him. What will happen to Forbes and Smiley?
"Pitfall" is a magnificent film-noir with a realistic story and well- developed characters. The direction and performances are top-notch and the cast gives credibility to the plot with excellent lines. Dick Powell and Jane Wyatt perform a mature couple that expects to supersede their problem. The gorgeous and sexy Lizabeth Scott is perfect in the role of a seductive femme-fatale. But Raymond Burr steals the show in the role of a despicable and Machiavellian villain. The open end is another plus in this great film. My vote is eight.
Title (Brazil): "Caminho da Tentação" ("Way to Temptation")
Fear the Walking Dead: Shiva (2016)
They Destroy Everything
"Fear the Walking Dead" is certainly among the worst TV series ever produced. And "Shiva" is probably one of the worst episodes of this show. This group of survivors now arrives in Mexico at a property that is prosperous, plenty of food, water and supplies in general. The residents welcome Madison and her family and friends and a few episodes later, the sanctuary is burned to the ground. It is amazing how this small group of unpleasant people is destructive. The psychopaths Daniel and Chris are probably the worst characters of this series. The writers maybe noted how bad these characters are and have found a way to get rid of Daniel, Chris, Travis and Nick to fix the series. Amen. My vote is five.
