My hobby is watching and collecting movies on VHS and DVD. On 17 June 2003, I found the IMDB site through an indication of a friend. My first review was "Anazapta" and since then, when I finish watching a movie, I write my personal opinion about it.
I am eclectic, but my genre number 1 is horror. I see between 800 and 900 movies per year, including TV series ("Sex and the City", "Angel", "Buffy", "Six Feet Under", "Lost" etc.).
My favorite movie is "Casablanca" and it is hard to point out my favorite director, actor and actress. I usually do not read any review before seeing a movie, in order to be not influenced by the critics.
I am trying to list my favorite movies alphabetically ordered, but this list may change:

Kvinden i buret (2013)
The Department of Closed Cases
In Denmark, in an unsuccessful raid against a criminal, the impulsive and stubborn Homicide Detective Carl Mørck (Nikolaj Lie Kaas) is seriously wounded by a shot; his best friend and partner dies and the other detective becomes crippled with the bullet. When Carl is recovered, he is set aside by his chief in the Department Q, where old cases are closed and filed, to work with the responsible for the department Assad (Fares Fares).
Carl stumbles with a five year-old case of a missing person, Merete Lynggaard (Sonja Richter), who committed suicide in accordance with the investigation of an incompetent detective. Carl finds strange that someone with the intention of taking her own life brings the mentally retarded brother Uffe (Mikkel Boe Følsgaard) with her and he decides to investigate. Carl learns that Merete had given a lecture before her disappearance and he requests photos from the event. Then Assad shows the photos to Uffe that reacts to one with a man called Daniel Hale. They discover that the man lives in Sweden and when they arrive, the local police informs that Daniel died while fishing. But when they see his photo, they realize that Daniel is not the man that they are looking for but another one called Lasse (Peter Plaugborg). But their chief wants to abort the whole operation and close the case. Will Carl and Assad find Merete still alive?
"Kvinden i buret" is a great European thriller with a good story and excellent screenplay that uses flashbacks to disclose characters and situations. The story recalls police stories from the 80's but using few clichés and without car chases. The plot can be an excellent pilot for a TV series or for a franchise since Detective Carl Mørck is an interesting character, dumped by his wife and losing his two partners. His association with Assad is promising. I look forward to see a sequel of this movie. My vote is eight.
Title (Brazil): "Departamento Q: Guardiões das Causas Perdidas" ("Department Q: Guardians of the Lost Causes")
Dexter: Sin of Omission (2011)
The Whore of Babylon
Dexter returns to Miami and finds Debra upset with him because of his absence and she tells that the Doomsday Killer is actually Gellar and another man, probably a former student. Louis uses his computer skills to reduce the number of Gellar's former students in Miami to 200 and the list is shared among the detectives that are assigned to investigate each one of them. LaGuerta gives a direct order to Debra to close her investigation of the death by OD of an escort girl. Debra decides to visit names of the list and she meets Travis' sister Lisa. Dexter continues to hunt down Gellar but Travis does not collaborate with him. Meanwhile Gellar abducts Travis and releases his Whore of Babylon in a school.
"Sin of Omission" is a dark episode of this season. Who might be involved in the death of the prostitute? My prime suspect is Deputy Chief Tom Matthews. Travis will certainly become an enemy of Gellar unless he dies. My vote is eight.
Title (Brazil): "O Pecado da Omissão" ("The Sin of the Omission")
The Weakest Episode of the Series
Debra meets Dexter and tells that the Trinity Killer has just murdered his wife Sally and his daughter Rebecca, and Jonah is the only survivor. Further Jonah has told to the police that he has fought with his father. Dexter immediately knows that Jonah is lying and he decides to take five days off to travel to Nebraska. The situation brings his brother Brian Moses, The Ice Truck Killer, back and Dexter travels with him. He lodges in a motel and has an incident with the owner. Then he meets Jonah and despite Brian's advices, he makes a choice. Meanwhile Travis leaves Gellar and goes to the house of his sister to stay with her.
"Nebraska" is so far the weakest episode of this series. Brian Moses is wasted in this episode trying to shift his brother from Harry's code. Fortunately he does not succeed in his intent; otherwise Dexter would become a common serial-killer "without principles" and would certainly lose his audience. Debra is having difficulties in her new position, especially with LaGuerta undermining her. Will Gellar leave Travis to have a normal life? My vote is seven.
Title (Brazil): "Nebraska"
Pure Non-Stop Action
The alcoholic and discredited air marshal Bill Marks (Liam Neeson) is a former cop that still grieves the death of his eight year-old daughter that died of leukemia. Bill is assigned to a flight from New York to London and the passenger Jen Summers (Julianne Moore) sits on his side in the first-class. When the plane is crossing the Atlantic Ocean, Bill receives text messages telling him that one passenger will die every twenty minutes unless the TSA air flight company transfers 150 million dollars to an offshore account. Bill contacts his superior that does not believe in his words. Further they discover that the bank account is in the name of Bill. Now Bill has to find the terrorist with the support of Jen and the flight attendant Nancy (Michelle Dockery) only and soon he finds a bomb on board. But the TSA representative believes that Bill is the terrorist. Will he succeed in saving the passengers lives?
"Non-Stop" is a non-stop action thriller with a simple but engaging story in a claustrophobic environment. The camera work is outstanding considering such narrow space and the performances are magnificent. The plot keeps the mystery to the very end and the viewers guessing who might be the terrorist. Liam Neeson and the gorgeous Julianne Moore are like wine, the older they are the better. If the procedure of putting a bomb in the rear of the airplane is for real, why not building a reinforced box in the location to protect the airplane structure? My vote is eight.
Title (Brazil): "Sem Escalas" ("Non-Stop")
Dexter: Just Let Go (2011)
The Dog, The Judas, The Crossroad and The New Baptism
Dexter is following Travis expecting to find Gellar; however he receives a phone call from Debra telling that Sam was shot in the repair shop and is in coma. Dexter decides to hunt down Leo Hernandez but detective Mike Anderson arrives before him with the police and Leo is murdered in a shooting. They find the DVD with the security footage and Dexter notes that the dog is not barking and he suspects of Nick. Meanwhile Debra requests the presence of Carissa Porter in Miami to give her testimony about Gellar and she learns that Quinn had one night stand with Carissa, jeopardizing the case. Then Debra follows the psychologist's recommendation and gives a party at her house. Travis has difficulties to follow Gellar's instructions and releases the girl that they have kidnapped. Brother Sam is near death but he talks to Dexter and asks him to forgive Nick. When Sam dies, Dexter finds himself in a crossroad between Sam's last wish and his code. Which one will prevail for Dexter?
"Just Let Go" is one of the best episodes of this Sixth Season where there is a battle between the darkness and the light. Brother Sam was one of the most charismatic characters of this Season and I am upset with his death. Dexter has recently had two great characters that might have helped him to get rid of his dark passenger, Lumen and mainly Brother Sam. Unfortunately in this battle between good and evil, the last one is winning. My vote is nine.

Saigo no bansan (2005)
The Diary of a Cannibal
In Tokyo, Doctor Yuji Kotorida (Masaya Kato) is a famous plastic surgeon that works with two former university classmates, Dr. Akimoto and Dr. Yanagihara, and a distinguished cook in his vacant time. He welcomes a television crew at home that is preparing a coverage about his life, but he does not disclose the secret about his meat.
Dr. Kotorida writes an anonymous diary in Internet where he discloses his dark secrets. He was an unpopular student and mediocre doctor in the beginning of his career until the day that he tried to eat human fat from a liposuction. Soon he improves his skills and decides to try to eat human flesh. When he finds a suicidal woman hanging on a tree branch, he brings her corpse home and literally eats her. When he travels to lecture in Hong Kong, he kills his first woman to eat her flesh and becomes addicted in flesh of young women. When his colleague and former lover Dr. Akimoto tells that she will get married to Dr. Yanagihara, Dr. Kotorida promises to prepare the dishes for her guests. But he is the prime suspect of the snoopy Detective Shimoda (Katsuya Kobayashi).
"Saigo no bansan", a.k.a. "The Last Supper", is a bizarre Japanese horror movie by Osamu Fukutani with a gruesome story of cannibalism. The plot holds the attention of the viewer, but the conclusion is very disappointing, senseless and open without any explanation. My vote is six.
Title (Brazil): Not Available
Dexter: The Angel of Death (2011)
Hello Doomsday Killer
While investigating the death of the waitress, Dexter stumbles with Travis and he searches his background believing that he is the Doomsday Killer. He also learns that Travis was Gellar's student at the university. He kidnaps Travis to kill him, but he realizes that Travis is not the Doomsday Killer. Batista and Quinn travel to Tallahassee to investigate Gellar and they meet his former affair, Professor Carissa Porter. Quinn has one night stand with her and Angel accidentally finds some notes from Gellar in her house. Debra goes on therapy and she moves to a house nearby the beach where a couple was murdered. Gellar and Travis see a couple walking alone in the night and they abduct the woman. Brother Sam visits Dexter and when he returns to his repair shop, he is shot by someone.
"The Angel of Death", Dexter releases Travis sure that he is not the Doomsday Killer. Quinn has an affair with Carissa en his attitude will certainly bring consequences to him. The negotiation of Debra and Mike Anderson to get discount on the renting of the house at the beach is funny. I hope Brother Sam survives; otherwise darkness will prevail over light. My vote is eight.
Title (Brazil): "O Anjo da Morte" ("The Angel of Death")
The Fist Press Conference
Dexter is at the beach with Harrison watching Brother Sam baptizing Nick. He receives a call from Debra to go to a crime scene and when he arrives, he sees mannequins and body parts on the top of horses. Soon Mike Anderson notes that they are representing the "Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse". Dexter finds a piece of paper with a number in the eye of the victim and he and Debra investigate the body of the seven snakes victim and find another piece of paper in the intestines. The killer receives the nickname "Doomsday Killer". Debra has her first press conference and she believes that she did not go well. Harrison goes on emergency surgery of appendix. Masuka discovers that Ryan has stolen the hand of the Ice Truck Killer to sell it in Internet. Gellar finds Travis with a waitress in bed and When Travis awakes, he has a surprise.
"A Horse of a Different Color" shows situations that are different from what were first thought. Dexter believes in science but when Harrison is in danger, he shows a different attitude regarding faith. Debra believes that she did not go well in her first press conference, but she realizes that the audience and Marshall enjoyed. Masuka believed that Ryan was interested on him but he finds that he was lured by her. The charismatic Brother Sam is one of the best characters of this season. My vote is nine.

Zwei Leben (2012)
A Credible Story of Espionage, Drama, Love and Thriller Based on True Events
In Norway, Katrine Evensen Myrdal (Juliane Köhler) is a middle-aged woman happily married with Navy Commander Bjarte Myrdal (Sven Nordin). Katrine loves her daughter Anne (Julia Bache-Wiig) that is a single mother; her granddaughter Turid; and her mother Ase Evensen (Liv Ullmann) that helps Anne to raise Turid. Katrine's father was a German occupation soldier during the World War II and Katrine was taken by the German government and raised in the Sachsen Orphanage in East Germany. At the age of 20, Katrine escapes from East Germany and comes to Norway to meet her mother.
In November 1990, after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the German lawyer Sven Solbach (Ken Duken) seeks Katrine and her mother out to give the testimony in a trial against the Norwegian state on behalf of the war children. Katrine refuses to testify, but Ase accepts and turns the life of her daughter upside-down when Sven discloses hidden dark secrets from her life.
"Zwei Leben" is a spectacular German-Norwegian film with a credible story of espionage, drama, love and thriller based on true events unknown for great part of the world. The screenplay is very well written, disclosing the truth about the mysterious Katrine through flashbacks like a puzzle. The performances are top-notch, highlighting the fantastic German actress Juliane Köhler from "Aimée & Jaguar", "Nowhere in Africa" and "Downfall" among other great movies. It is different to see Liv Ullmann an old lady after so many movies by Ingmar Bergman. In the end, "Zwei Lebe" is a highly recommended movie with an engaging sad story. My vote is nine.

Corny Story about a Clumsy Fictional Operation
In 2007, the Rio de Janeiro government is preparing an operation with the police and army to invade the Complexo do Alemão, one of the largest and more dangerous slums of the South America, as part of the UPP Program of the State to retrieve slums controlled by drug dealers.
The delivery boy Pixixo (Izak Dahora) is bringing classified documents with the identity of the undercover agents that are working in Alemão to deliver to the Chief of Police Valadares (Antônio Fagundes), but he is stopped in a checkpoint of the drug dealers. Pixixo flees, but the criminals that take his mail. Soon the criminals under the command of the drug lord Playboy (Cauã Reymond) jam the cellular and the internet to hunt down the undercover agents Samuel (Caio Blat), Danilo (Gabriel Braga Nunes), Carlinhos (Marcello Melo Jr.) and Branco (Milhem Cortaz) that hide in their base in the pizzeria of the also undercover agent Doca (Otávio Muller). Without means of communication, there is tension and suspicion among the five men that are trapped inside the pizzeria. The situation gets more complicated when the cleaning woman Mariana (Mariana Nunes) comes to the pizzeria to receive her payment. Will the police agents succeed to escape?
"Alemão" is a Brazilian docudrama about the true event, the invasion of the Complexo do Alemão on 28 November 2010 in one of the biggest operation ever carried out in Rio de Janeiro. Unfortunately the story is corny and the agents responsible for the fictional operation are clumsy. There is practically no action in "Alemão", which is actually a psychological drama, and the film is limited to two or three locations. Most of the time, the plot is in a claustrophobic environment inside a pizzeria, instead of showing how the operation was carried out and how the police officers and soldiers are heroes. The performances are top-notch, but the characters are too stupid, hitting each other and provoking a mess and exposing their hideout, aware that the invasion would happen in a short time. My vote is five.
