Marry Me (2022)
Definitely Not RomCom Fan, But I Love This Movie!
POSSIBLE SPOILERS
I don't like romcoms, generally. I think they are unrealistic fluff that conflate being in love with "falling" in love, which sometimes happens literally.
But the premise of this movie is, on the one hand so improbable, and on the other TOTALLY possible if you consider shows like "The Bachelor," "90 Day Fiancé," and the others where people marry strangers. But this seems like something a celebrity would do after being dumped.
I don't, generally, like musicals either and JLo sings every chance she gets in this movie. But it makes sense because her character is a SINGER. After the first few viewings (I've watched it about 6 times), the pop-y music grew on me. I found myself singing not only the title song, but the song called "Church" that JLo performs near the beginning even after the movie was over. I have to say, though, that this song seems like a less intense rip-off of Madonna's "Oh Father." But I'm okay with it.
What was most unbelievable to me was not that a celebrity would marry a regular-guy stranger, but that Jennifer Lopez's character never asks Owen Wilson's character what happened to his nose!
Black Love (2017)
Good Show - Who the People Are
I do t know if every couple has a famous person or not, but I'd like to know who the couples are beyond just first names. A few of them are familiar, but I'd like to know where I've seen them. To do that, I need to know their last names.
I'm more interested in the couples if I know who they are.
Bobbie's Girl (2002)
Great Little Film - Two Leads Not Believable as Couple
I really liked this movie. I came upon it totally by accident one day while channel surfing. I love intimate little films that are about people and their personal journeys, not about how many cars can be blown up.
The little actor playing Allan (Thomas Sangster) has the biggest and most expressive eyes I've seen in a while.
I've read comments that the openly lesbian and Jewish elements wouldn't really fly in a small town like the one in the film, but that didn't bother me.
What kind of bothered me was the fact that Bailey and Bobbie didn't seem like a real couple. I'm a lesbian and I see straight women playing lesbians all the time. You can tell they're straight and a little uncomfortable with same-sex affection. There were moments in this film where I got that distinct impression.
But other than that, I think the movie is great. I've seen it a few times now, and I always cry at the end.
