Tristan + Isolde (2006)
I liked it. In fact I saw it twice in as many days!
I'll admit, I'm a sucker for period pieces(especially medieval ones) and love stories. And this film didn't let me down (which is saying something as it's directed by the guy who made WATERWORLD of all movies...). It differs from the legend I've read, but it quite good nonetheless. The cinematography set a great mood, drawing the viewer into the dark (in more ways than one) ages. James Franco disappointed me in Spider-man 2, but I'd say he definitely proved he has some acting skills in there with this film! The costumes were great, as well. My sister even commented on them, and she's not into film-making as I am. I think the thing I liked most about this movie was that it didn't make the story into a fanciful little love story with a happily ever after ending. It's nice to have a happy ending, yes, but that's all we see at the movies anymore. And not everything works that way. I think I only have one real complaint about the film. I don't know if it was planned, but why were the Pagan Irish who didn't want to be converted to Christianity the evil bad guys, but the good, Christian king triumphs? Sorry, maybe it's just a personal thing. Anyway, go see this movie if you haven't!
