Perfect Mothers (2013)
Saw this by accident. Wishing I could unsee it now.
According to the IMDb app we were going to see the 2008 film by Atom Egoyan called 'Adoration', which I thought odd since it came out a few years ago, but went and bought tickets none-the-less.
Instead we got this dirge of a middle-brow 'procrastination' on what happens when two bored, over-indulged Aussie women transgress by sleeping by one another's boring, over-indulged (and strangely anti-social) sons. Essentially sleeping with their own children... I mean that's the implication, surely. That's the real transgression.
This last note reminded me of when I sat down with another friend to watch 'Savage Grace', a much more sordid and heavy handed affair... also another 'accidental' viewing I'd rather not repeat.
The only reprise from this rather pretty drudgery was when a bunch of mis guided punters entered the cinema about 15 minutes before the end of the film to find my friend and myself (the only people in the cinema at the time) laughing and pointing at the stoney faced 'acting' of the two male leads.
Sure this wasn't the film I was expecting (thanks again IMDb) and I felt we were as far away from the intended audience as we could possibly be but who was this film made to appeal to?
The 'Vogue Living' air suggested middle-aged, middle-class, middle-of-the- road, nouveau riche, Aussie Mums would be the ones but then there's the creepy thing with the sons... I just don't know but there's no one I would recommend this film to.
It was just awful.
