127 Hours (2010)
A must see film of the 21st Century
I remember going through the discussion board on IMDb and I came a crossed a message that said what movies will be remembered 60 years from now? I had a very short list of movies for this board but I can safely say I can add one more to that list and it's called "127 Hours." This movie is a spectacular collaboration of emotional images, mental break downs, and the power of the human will to live. This movie grabs your attention right from the beginning and moves your butt right to the edge of the seat. You will be stuck there staring at the screen until the very end and then and only then you will finally sit back in relief.
I wouldn't normally do a spoiler review but in his case I am because it is a true story and through out the movie you know the ending. This is a sign of a create film because you know the ending but yet you can't look away from the screen where in most cases, when you now the end of a movie it becomes uninteresting. This movie is more than just watching a man try to make it out of what seems to be an impossible situation to survive.
James Franco did an absolutely amazing job at playing the role of Aron Ralston and really showing what went through his mind during the 127 hours he was trapped. When Aron started to hallucinate he saw his family, friends, and a love he once had. He would flashback to all the great times he had with all of them and he would break down every time a little more inside yet give him the strength to stay alive. He had even given up and it seemed he was done. He video taped himself during a psycho break down, doing a talk show with himself has he played all the characters. He began to talk about how stupid he was to not tell anyone where he was going. He talked about how even his friend Chris wouldn't know he was gone till the weekend. Even if Chris reported him missing police can't take action for 24 hours and at that point he would be dead for sure. After he was finished with his break down video he snapped back to reality. He started thanking his parents for everything they had done for him and that he wishes that he had responded to every call that she gave him throughout his life. You can see in his face when he was taping that he knew he was going to die and the emotion was just pour out of his body. He made you feel that emotion in yourself as you watched the film and all you can do is just hope he makes it out alive.
Finally at the end of the movie, after now surviving on his own urination, he see's what I believe is his nephew on the other side of the rock on a couch in the sand. He see's himself playing with him and picking him up playing around and having fun. He realizes there is no chance of getting out of here in any reasonable way, so he kneels down and puts pressure on his arm and snap! He breaks his arm and continues to break it even more. He pulls out his dull knife and begins to cut his arm where he had broken the bone. He is soon stopped by a nerve that seems to painful to cut. This scene itself makes every muscle in your body tense up for 20 seconds and you won't be able to relax. When he finally cuts that cord your entire body twitches in relief. He cuts the rest of his arm off and he escapes from what seemed to be certain death. When he falls backwards and looks at the rock that has trapped and stopped his life for 5 days, you are looking at a man that came back from the dead. When you see this part of the film you watch with "ahhhh" and you almost don't know how to feel but you almost want to cry because he made it out after everything he went through.
This movie is one of the greatest films I have ever seen and I give it a solid 9/10. If you haven't had the pleasure of seeing this movie you need to go out, buy a movie ticket, and see this movie as soon as you can.
Freaks and Geeks (1999)
11 years later and still best show you can watch!!!
I don't even know where to begin to describe this show. There are so many words that can be used to describe this show like Brilliant, spectacular, clever, witty, smart, relatable, funny, emotional, grabbing, and every other descriptive word that is positive.
I watched this show when I was 9 years old and it was one of my favorite shows I had ever watched. The show after a few years kind of disappeared from TV and now 11 years later catching it on TV is like as likely as winning the lottery. Yet you can watch friends, Seinfeld, and Everybody Loves Raymond anytime you want. There is definitely something wrong with that picture. Freaks and Geeks is and most likely will be for a very long time the highest rated show on IMDb with a 9.5/10. There is basically nothing wrong with this show.
This show has probably the greatest leading cast out of any show ever to have aired on TV, it has some of the best actors and actresses we see in movies today. James Franco who has just come out with a Brilliant movie Called 127 Hours and he also was unforgettable in Milk. Seth Rogen from the movies Knocked up and Pineapple Express. Linda Cardellini who played a role in Boy Meets World that almost broke up Corey and Tanpanga. Samm Levine from the movies Inglorious Basters and Not another teen movie. Also Jason Segel from the movie Pineapple Express and the now great hit TV show How I Met Your Mother. Also there are many other great characters in this TV show.
This show is centered around the most average, relatable, students in a high school ever, the only character that has an impressive talent is Lindsay Weir and that is she is extremely smart in school.
I want to say a little about the show from what I can remember from watching it when I was a little kid at the age of nine. What I remember from the show was the little kids and their problems they were having with school. They were unpopular, not very smart at all, weird, nerdy, and socially inadequate. At the age of nine the young kids were all I paid attention to the older group of kids like Lindsay, Nick, Daniel, and the rest of them I didn't really pay attention to them. Now that I told a little about how I took in the show at age 9, now its time to look at it at the age of 20.
The show is just as great if not even better at the age of 20. This time around I didn't relate to the little kids really but I enjoyed their characters very much. I am now relating to the druggy, screw up seniors. I never even notice and never would have at a young age that they were even using drugs on the show or using drug references. I remember one part in the show Seth Rogen's character says to Lindsay "My cousin sent me some shrooms and I am gonna eat them". That was in one of the first episodes and I now know what shrooms are and it was hilarious that I watched this as a kid and I was so pulled in by the young group of kids I didn't even think to ask what they were always talking about. Also through out the show they are portrayed as pot smokers and what a brilliant job they did. All the time Daniel, Nick, and Ken walk around with red eyes and a bag of chips in their hand making random statements about meaningless things. The show created a great picture of what an average pot head does, they smoke, eat, hang out, and do fun random things. They don't lose there life to it, they don't do massive amounts of it. Nothing is over done and it is exactly how it would be in real life with average high school students.
The show is strongly based around Lindsay's Character though. It follows her as she has become a rebel, fighting her parents rules, and no longer wants to be the straight A student. She tries to be friends with Daniel and his crew and she even puts her life in danger at some points. She is constantly struggling to get away from her straight A student life because of her old friends, family, and teachers. As she becomes friends with this new drug rebel crew she gets into their heads and starts to change their lives but being that this show is portraying a real life high school situation. The characters really never make it in life, they realize that they are screw ups but they are who they are so they can't really make their life much better. An example of that is Nick he wants to become a star. He is not very good and his dad tells him to give up his dream. Do something real his dad tells him. People always say follow your dreams but in real life following your dreams just honestly doesn't happen and with him it doesn't. I am not gonna say much more about the show because I want you to enjoy the show and not know to much about what is going to happen.
The show will capture you ate any age I think. I am looking forward to watching it as a parent and maybe pay attention to how the parents act because I will understand their life. It is in my opinion the best show to have ever aired in television ever. It is sad that they didn't make another season but I also love that they only made one season. I give the show a 10/10 rating, I would go higher but I can't.
Black Swan (2010)
Psycho, Sexual thriller is what it is!!!
This is movie portrays what is said about itself "Wicked Psycho Sexual Thriller". This movie follows a Ballet dancer named Nina. Her mind and body is devoted to dancing and to perfecting everything about her dancing. Through out the movie she is constantly competing against her sanity. Along with her sanity on line she is beginning to feel she is losing her part in the production of Swan lake, to a dance sister named Lily. If it wasn't enough pressure on Nina to have to deal with her sanity, that could soon be gone, and losing her role in the play, she goes home to a unstable mom. Her mom is lost in her own failure as a dancer and can not accept the fact she never made it. Nina's mom blames it on her that she never made it has a dancer. She wants her to succeed so bad that she pushes Nina to hard.
The Relationship between Nina and Lily in this movie is extremely intense, passionate, provocative and mentally thrilling. Lily seems to take advantage of Nina's situation and send Nina done an even darker path of her own destruction. Lily please a creepy and sexual character, yet at times she is just a regular friendly girl that does nothing wrong. Nina in this situation starts to blame her problems and struggles on Lily and that Lily is trying to get her out of the show and take her place as the lead ballet dancer dong the White and Black Swan.
Nina is trying to make sure she can keep it together. She is constantly being told to let go by her director, but she is so obsessed with making everything absolutely perfect she can't let go. Nina's life is now on the line because she is going insane over the need she has to make her dancing perfect.
This movie was a great film and I would recommend it to anyone who likes Darren Aronofsky's movies. This movie, I believe was not as good as Requiem For a Dream because I didn't feel there was enough story and enough character information given. Like why did Nina pick to fear Lily from the beginning what reasoning did she have for Lily? Why did Lily come to this place to dance what did she do prior to dancing at this studio? A little more information about what the mom went through when Nina was growing up? If there was a little more depth to the characters i think the movie would easily be a 10/10 but i am giving it a 8.5/10.
Saw 3D (2010)
It was a good movie that tied the saw series together.
The Saw Series has now ended and everyone knows what happened and if you watched the movies you weren't surprised but rather excited you figured it out. I was very into all the Saw movies and watched them all many times each, trying to figure out where it was going. The second movie with the guy with the key beyond his eye gave the ending away to the last movie pretty noticeably. It was great that they were able to put so many clues through out all the movies and really tie them together in the end. Even though the story was good I think they needed to just relax on the blood and guts. I mean I am all for making it has gross as you possibly can and making people cringe in their seats but they took it to far again and it was so unrealistically bloody. So I say if you are a Saw fan go see it for sure and if you really like the blood and you like the feeling of getting chills and cringing go and see it. I gave this movie a 6 out of 10 because as an over all movie its nothing great, the movie its just another average movie.
