Too bad the "Creature" didn't eat the screenwriters.
Where to begin?
Aside from being too long for a TV Movie that really isn't much on depth, Creature just tries too hard to be something bigger than it is.
So many times during the course of the movie, you see several characters trying to get overly dramatic with their dialogue, which clearly doesn't work for a movie that's just supposed to be about a man-eating-mutant-shark. This was a turn off to the highest degree for me. I think the screenwriters did this to make us like the characters so much so that we would cringe at the thought of them getting eaten.
On second thought, maybe they succeeded. In the end, it' not the main characters I wanted to see die...but rather the screenwriters.
Oh and by the way, though it's easy to consider this a cheap rip off of Jaws...I also think it ripped off Jurassic Park as well toward the finale, with the Creature hobbling through the compound like a velociraptor as the characters try to lure him into a trap.
Note to future B-Movie wannabe directors and screenwriters: WE DON'T NEED ANOTHER PETER BENCHLEY NOVEL TURNED MOVIE. JAWS WAS ENOUGH.
