Battle: Los Angeles (2011)
Roger Ebert was actually right for once!
I originally gave this gave this 6/10 but after remembering the movie again, I've lowered the score. Basically, this is a dull and boring movie. Lets start at the beginning.
The movie is obviously about aliens invading us and trying to colonize us. Once they start invading us, then of course, the marines are called in. Casting wise, Aaron Eckhart gives a great performance, one of the best things about the movie. The rest of the cast was horrible and don't even get me started on the Michelle Rodriguez one-liners. The aliens, despite appearing interesting at first, become more and more boring as the movie goes on. One of the major disappointments about the movie to me was, there was no backstory to the mysterious aliens that are invading us. They simply come and fight. The action sequences and effects were outstanding to. What kills the movie however is the camera-work done by Johnathan "shaky" Liebsman. Believe me, I wanted to enjoy this movie but it's kind of hard to with the camera jumping all over the place and never standing still.
Several people in my theater walked out. I wished I had to but with today's theater prices I decided to stay and watch this awful movie. 2 stars for Aaron Eckhart's great performance and the great action sequences. -8 stars for the horrible film, horrible acting, and lack of plot depth.
2/10
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
Simply Amazing and Breathtaking
I remember seeing this when I was only 7 years old. Now 10 years later, I have to say this is one of my favorite movies of all time (behind Two Towers). The acting is simply amazing by every actor and almost all of the scenes are breathtaking. Peter Jackson has created a world that I feel is the very definition of the books. Needless to say this film (along with Two Towers) was robbed of the Best Picture award. The music gets to me every time and this is a masterpiece of all time. Elijah Wood did a good job as Frodo but the outstanding actors were Ian McKellan as Gandalf, Sean Astin as Sam, Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn, and of course, Andy Serkis as Gollum. A movie may never touch me like this again, so thank you Peter Jackson.
