Fish Police (1992)
Never should have been axed in such fashion...shame.
This show was actually pretty good. What can be said that hasn't already? Great cast and it's not ALL just one note fish jokes. There's a LOT but they're all throwaways and not considered big laughs that fall flat - that's a totally different thing. Even Don Knotts was up in this b*tch! Ritter was SUCH a talent - the guy SEEMS so simple on the surface people never really gave him his credit. He's done brilliant work and like John Candy he was never replaced.
This show show have been toned down by 5% (that's not much) just the hell's or damn's...maybe an innuendo here and there and place on sat afternoons or mornings even. Watching it NOW (like some many things looking back when you're older) well sure you could say it could be more complex in the mystery part but for a cartoon it works just fine.
It's not a classic as the 6 episodes stand, but it is something I would have watched - had I given it the chance. Anything that was done in prime time to combat the simpsons failed until King of the Hill so this never had a chance but after only 3 episodes how could anyone think anything else but that it sucked. Family Dog bombed and I think there was a cat show? LOL This was aimed to high and should have been marketed differently...could have sold some toys even.
I wished there were more episodes having just watched all 6. Such talent and such little faith? Fox is fickle..oh Capitol Critters! That was the other one lol
Tales of the Riverbank (1960)
Ottawa is the house!! Global FTW
I LOVED this show as a kid, I'm 39 now...but I remember watching this at 6:30 I think (not (7:30) but I could be wrong... I might be confusing it with Frightenstein. I only wrote this just cuz there's 2 other ottawa peeps who remember this show!!! Awesome!! I loved global back in the day. I remember Saturdays most. Cartoons till 11 then at noon was wwf then a break but then from 3-5 I think) we'd have afternoon cartoons on global. You could even listen to them in the car (which I did while mom and dad were in a store some times)... My pet monster, droids, ewoks and something else I think... I also remember the santa claus parade being a great start to the season. 80's ftw. Good memories. O-town and global TV!!!
The Dictator (2012)
worst comedy ever? Could be...
Absolute garbage. Not since The Pest have seen a comedy THIS bad...oh sure, Pink Panther 2 was horrible but this takes it to a whole new level. Cohen should not be allowed to make another movie and Farris and Kinglsey need to have their heads examined. It simply not funny, racist, offensive and filled with flat jokes. You can see the jokes coming a mile away and everyone is as lame as you imagined. It's funny how most critics would say Mel Brooks fell off with his last 4 films (Spaceballs, life stinks, Robin hood and Dracula) and the box office receipts might agree with them (although I never have. All of those films have merit in some ways) but THIS - THIS IS HOW YOU FALL OFF. It's absolute SHITE.
Fright Night (2011)
I don't get all the super positive reviews on here
while the film is entertaining for most parts (and yes tedious and clichéd in others...many others) it fails on many, many levels. The plot has more holes than a slice of swiss cheese and everything is awfully convenient in this this movie. Ferrell was entertaining as a vampire, Toni Collette was wasted and I liked David Tennant but hated his character. I thought of Russell Brand like a lot of people did when I fist saw him.
Three things I really had a problem with...
1. The fact that all these kids/people are missing and the cops don't seem to care. This was the worst of the plot holes to me.
2. I was really entertained up until the part where Ferrell rips the gas line out of the ground and blows up the house...the actions of everyone during that scene and in the car chase afterwards was awkward and silly to me and again the police don't notice the gas line dug out of the ground or investigate their house EXPLODING!? etc etc...
3. The pre credits sequence. Ending a movie well can really help a mediocre film out. If they can send you out smiling in a sense you'll be like "that was OK" instead of "that was crap"...they lost me right at the end during the scene in the loft. Also, the closing remake song was awful in my opinion.
Those are my main grips and honourable mention goes to, as someone else here put it: the constant "douche baggery" of our main character - that really stuck in my crawl...but he did kick ass at the end...
End of Spoilers
So while it was entertaining, it was NOT a well made movie. too many reason to list. If this were siskel & ebert, I'd be doing "thumbs down". I wouldn't even recommend a rental, this is straight cable fare.
