Lucky Bastard (2014)
great flick, better than expected
After excitedly ordering this movie, I was finally able to view it last weekend. Both I and my co-viewer thought it was excellently acted and a suspenseful flick which was surprisingly better than we both expected. My viewing tastes tend toward edgy fare and I collect NC-17 rated movies (which are too few and far between unfortunately), and this is one of the best I have seen in the last couple of years. The production value was good and was obviously not hindered by budget. My favorite character was Ashley, nothing like a kick-ass no-holds-barred female to command attention. Kudos to the actors, writers, and director--great job! P.S., let the haters hate; they are going to anyway. I always have to wonder why people comment on films that they haven't even seen--why do we care about your opinion based on nothing but your own personal bias? Watch the movie, THEN comment.
Sex, Blood and Mutilation 2 (2003)
not good, not even close
This was one of the worst films I've seen so far in my life; terrible editing, no real "acting", not gory enough to be shocking but the intent seemed to be to just shock with no other goal. I wanted to laugh at the end at the implied animal abuse, and not because I don't like animals (love them!) but because it was so terribly, terribly fake. I hope this was Joe C's last attempt at a movie because he has no talent for it whatsoever--none. Why it was originally touted as NC-17 I have no idea, I'm sure it was never submitted to the MPAA considering the budget & lack of $ to do that submission. And IMDb needs to rein in who can document ratings for movies to those who actually know what it was rated by the MPAA, not just the people who think it may have merited an R, NC-17, or whatever.
Purchased this DVD as a fan of NC-17 rated movies and watched it last night. Am REALLY surprised that this received an NC-17 rating as the sexual content is extremely graphic (nothing left to the imagination other than the actual ejaculation shot! you do get to see the results though) The movie was interesting enough but the male lead is a bit annoying...his wife can't complete a sentence without him interjecting his own views. That being said if you want to see an erotic film about those who work "in the industry" as he puts it, this is a good example. Be forewarned though, the sex is, again, very graphic. If anyone has examples of other NC-17 rated films please let me know on the message board...especially if you can actually purchase the unedited version and not a washed-down R-rated edit. Thanks to all!
Trece campanadas (2002)
Does anyone have any idea why this was rated nc-17? I saw nothing that would put it anywhere close to a "hard R", much less a more adult rating. Once again, the ratings board throws a curve to anyone interested in movies with more controversial/graphic/racy content, as this one shows none of that at all. Could it be that it was edited out after the nc-17 was awarded? If so, this makes no sense---why would you release the movie as an unrated edition and cleave out the content that made it an nc-17? A question better plied to the distributors, perhaps... Despite my questions, I really enjoyed the movie. Not a totally novel premise, but well produced and acted.
Also--IMDb needs to fix their software, typing nc-17 in all caps is correct, not shouting!
