Not great, but pretty good for Showtime
I got the chance to check out the Reefer Madness premiere in NYC last night (April 10) and while most of the cast was there (yum Kristen Bell!) that couldn't stop most people from noticing that the movie felt very long and dragged in certain spots. But why dwell on the bad? Kristen Bell is terrific as sweet and wholesome Mary Lane (get it, Mary Lane, rhymes with Jane) who knew Kristen was such an adept singer/dancer! There is a song called "Five and Dime" where Kristen all but dances out of her Mary-Janes (and for the fellas there is a scene where Kristen succumbs to the ravages of the deadly marijuana and goes all kinky crazy.... yeah, we're talking' patent leather bra and garters......but the real show stopper is Ana Gasteyer--this woman can sing, dance act and deliver a punch line like nobody's business! She has the best lines in the movie and gets the biggest laughs from the crowd. Alan Cumming is typically tongue in cheek and Christian Campbell is good but it continues to amaze me that he can still play 15 years old, pretty successfully too, even though he is actually 33! So all in all, a pretty good movie musical, but I wouldn't expect many Emmy nomsexcept for acting nods (hopefully) for Gasteyer and Bell.
Club Dread (2004)
A bit slow at times but funny with some great cheap scares
As a huge fan of "Super Troopers" I had high expectations for this movie. And within the first 10 minutes i was laughing my *** off. Some great one liners and some hysterical horror movie cliches used to great effect. i found this to be hugely entertaining and a movie that will definitely get better with repeated viewings. The opening scene is great and totally in line with the classic Super Trooper opening. Some great, great, great T&A provided by Brittany Daniels, Jordan Ladd and that girl from 90210. The guys of Broken Lizard are hilarious as always and know how to make the most of the screen time they are allotted. All i can say is "Where's my Penis? Where's my penis?" A big recommendation to anyone who liked Super Troopers or horror movies. It's great to see the set-ups coming and a surprise when they shock the crap out of you...which happened a few times.
