I don't usually spill my distaste for a movie on IMDb because I respect film makers, crews and actors work too much for that. However, there are way too many reviews giving it a 10/10 or a 9/10 coming from accounts that have been created just for that single review, with pompous titles such as "Best schi-fi ever" or "sooooo realistic". That's why I've decided to write something about it - even if it won't make a difference.
First things first : this sci-fi movie is NOT very realistic. Take the astronauts amateur and non-pragmatic behaviour, or sending a MANNED probe 6yrs away (why didn't ESA send Bruce Willis along with Rosetta?) giving them almost no back-up hardware, or placing all sensitive stuff outside the ship and not inside... Read the other (5/10 or less) reviews and you can have a comprehensive list of poorly thought realism.
So if you're looking for a truly realistic sci-fi movie, forget this one. But if you're looking for a movie that looks super realistic to somebody who didn't study science at school, go for it.
No, wait, don't go yet!
You should also know about the movie's incredibly horrific timeline cut, which doesn't use 2 but 3 (or more?) different timelines! That, for one, is crazy annoying. Seriously, imagine having to cope with at least 3 different timelines! This is nuts...
You should also know how boring this movies is. It holds about 2/3 of complete pure zero-action non-interesting scenes. 1/3 is the ship's launch and travel with people cycling in pyjamas, drinking their own (recycled) pee, and talking to the camera. Spoiler : nothing happens. But what is crazy is that even through such great lengths of nothingness, there is close to zero character development. I assure you : you won't give a damn whatever happens to any of the crew by the end of the movie!
To sum it up... pitch : 8/10 SFX : 8/10 (given the budget) photography : 5/10 (too many missed opportunities) direction : 5/10 acting : 4/10 realism : 4/10 dialogs : 3/10 editing : 0/10 pushing (obviously) fake reviews on IMDb : -10/10
Total : 27/90 -> 3/10
