21 Grams (2003)
Connect the dots
Emotions run high, drama run deep and complexities become lesser as this movie moves forward in the most disjointed fashion I have ever seen in any movie.
The first half is riveting as it gives you everything of its plot in a non-linear narration and the second half is where we are able to connect all the dots or clues to understand the movie.
Superb acting by the 3 main leads in the struggle to measure the value of life and the weight of death.
Must watch for those who love watching new style of film-making & story-telling and not recommended for those who don't like complex structure & non-linear narration.
My Week with Marilyn (2011)
Merylin & Colin
Suffering of a superstar through the eyes of a rookie.Being the most popular women on earth is not easy specially in a different country. A film star wanting to be a movie actress goes through a journey of emotions which vacillates between good and bad.
There is insecurity to maintain that success so is joy by falling in love all over again with a younger guy. There is pain of not being able to get into the character & being admonished for it so is that feeling of becoming a child again seeing a doll house in the queens palace.
She is praised for what she has achieved by her admonisher in private because he knows she will not believe him and also knows that what makes her great. You can see the tinge of jealousy in his eyes when he is praising her.
All the people around her want her to go on but do not know how to handle her ,what is the word-ah tantrums. They feed her tablets of all kind but nobody is ready to understand her. That's where Colin comes. He accepts her as she is.
Imagine the luckiest guy and than there is Colin Clark.A guy in his first film gets not just to work with Marylin Monroe but also romances with her.She comes & goes but it is he who gets the gift of her embrace, her belief in him and the joy she gave to him.
Before Sunset (2004)
Sun never set after watching this movie
Well who says you need millions of dollars, eye popping technology and huge set pieces to make a movie(i.e. a good movie). Here is an example of how two people walking the streets of Paris in a single afternoon sharing their life experiences realize what their life has become without each other and what it could have been had they met on 16th December nine years ago. Both have complains, questions and what if's towards each other. Both want to go back in time and change their life because none of the two are happy with their life. This is not a story about love but about the unfulfillment of the love story told with deep dialogues and solemn expressions. And the ending, well what can you say about that.I always love those movies which do not spoon fed you but leave you to comprehend it with your own imagination and that's where this movie scores hugely. This movie will be incomplete without it's first part as it builds on that relationship with a maturity which the first part lagged.I will recommend this movie to anyone who like me doesn't believe in love much but in the idea of love.
