Slice of life from the 1800s.
12 October 2020
I had heard about this movie by the buzz it created when it first came out early this year and decided to give it a go.

The film is basically a slice of life period drama. It's realistic, it's slow, at times it's uninteresting, much like everyday life... in the 1800s. The characters are well established, the plot is well developed, dialogues are realistic. And much like real life it doesn't have a simple beginning or an ending. I understand that this was an intentional decision but after watching the film this leaves one with a feeling like having read some chapters from the middle of a book, but not the whole book itself.

Even though I do want to pick up the story from where it left off and see where it goes, the movie as it is, is fulfiling nevertheless.

Definitely worth watching.

Only tuned in for Jason Alexander...
12 October 2020
Even the premise of the film isn't that original but I wanted to give it a shot, since Jason Alexander was in it and could be a fun movie to laugh along for an hour or so.

What a giant let down. I did chuckle a few times at the beginning, but gradually it turns out none of the jokes are landing, none of the characters are well established, and you find yourself not rooting for anybody in the film because nobody has a developed character.

I get that the film is low budget, but the plot didn't need to be this ham-fisted and devoid of any interest whatsoever. There are better student films on a lower budget than this.

A missed oppurtunity at a great comedy
25 January 2020
A lackluster screenplay from an otherwise a very talented director gives way to this underwhelming drama with actors of star levels on their own. The film is structured mostly as a drama but the comedic undertones point at such a wonderful potential for a straight out clever comedy, it's frustrating to see the film never goes there. With a few tweaks on the screenplay, adding a few smart jokes to the dialogues this film could have been a great heart warming comedy with deep dramatic undertones. 6/10
