The Lone Ranger (2013)
Dumb and Dumber
I grew up watching the original series and have to say this film is disgusting. They make Tonto look like a deranged lunatic half-wit pirate in an Indian costume. The original series used to teach kids lessons of good and bad and gave kids someone to look up to but this is a poor remake. This film is full of fancy special effects and stunts that I guess were suppose to be funny but they didn't pull it off.
The only thing they got right was the beginning of the original legend and how the "Lone" ranger came to be but after that it was a joke. Disney should have done a better job at this especially with the legacy of the series they had to work from. This was a definite waste of money. I think I heard Hi-Ho Silver ONCE during the whole film and a variation of the original theme song. Disney should be ashamed of themselves.
Trouble with the Curve (2012)
Another Eastwood Smash Hit
For those of you that don't go to this film for one reason or another it is your loss. It is definitely another Eastwood smash hit. As with a fine wine he is getting better with age.
Like others have said, baseball is just a background for the film, it's an excellent film for the whole family especially the teenagers in your family that may needs to learn some life lessons. Like the cocky player who thinks he #1 and turns out to become a bomb. A little humility goes a long way.
The casting selections were perfect. I never did like the smart-ass from Scream. He played that part again, perfectly. But most of all the credit has to go to Clint. I think he really enjoys doing these kind of films and I love to go watch them. Can't wait for the BR so I can watch it over again.
I was impressed as always with the film itself but it could have been cut down to a much shorter film. The layover in the different locations got a bit boring. I'm guessing without doing any exact timing it could have been cut down to at least under 2 hours. I'm hoping the final part will have a bit more action and less milling around. I would rather sit through a three to four hour single part film then have to wait 8 months for the final part. The old epic films when we'd sit through a 3½ hour film with an intermission would be perfect for this finale. They could have combined both parts, made it in 3-D and had a brief intermission.
And I definitely agree with the person that said, don't bring the kids. The series has gotten darker since movie #5. The cast and film has grown up in years as should the viewers. I would not bring my grade school child but someone who saw Part 1 as a youngster would appreciate it more now some 10 years later. Can't wait for the final film, hoping for a good follow-up and watching both parts on blu-ray in a year or two.
