Jake's Booty Call (2003)
Saw this film on holiday...
Saw this film on holiday and have to say you get exactly what you pay for. Fans of the online flash game won't be disappointed as the film stays true to form and it has it's fair share of laugh out loud moments. However, those who are new to the world of Jake may have more trouble getting into the swing of things, admittedly some will love it but on the flip side some will truly hate it. It is certainly not a film for general audiences which is why I assume it will never go on wider release (that of course and the obvious financial side of things). But if you are going to see this film then in all likelihood you are used to the Romp and should have a good time, even if the film does drag a little at times. Vote: 8 out of 10 because it does exactly what it says on the tin.
Not that bad
This is a typical Dick Maas production. Cheesy to the max, limited plot, laughable dialogue and comic action sequences. Anyone who has seen anything by Maas will recognise these as his trademark and just go with the flow. I was dreading watching this movie from all the comments on IMDB but while it is hardly a classic (it's pretty poor really), it IS very entertaining. It's a real no brainer that passes the time quite nicely and while artistically his original "De Lift" is a better movie, I found this one to be more entertaining. Score out of 10? 5/10 for the film itself, 7.5/10 for entertainment value. PS~ Forgot to mention the acting.... probably for the best ;-)
House of 1000 Corpses (2003)
I have read the review by M. A. Rogers (firstname.lastname@example.org) and still fail to see the point of this movie. Zombie should stick to making music video's as this film is just an overlong music video with no story, only one character with the merest glimmer of depth, personality or humour (the gas station clown). Fine, it was well filmed and the actors did ok with what they were given, but this does not take anything away from the fact that the story was non-existant and scenes were ripped straight out of countless better movies. The attempted surrealism has been done many times before and much better than this mish-mash. All I can say is Zombie tried to be clever, shocking, surreal etc but all he has achieved is a worthless pile of tripe.
Had I been able to give a score of 0 for this film that would have been too kind. The only reason I watched the whole film was in the vain hope that the ending would change my mind and give some credit to the story, instead of ripping off "Alice" and going places we've been 1000 times before.
Avoid this film at all costs and I just pray that it does not become a "Cult Classic" for it surely doesn't deserve that title.
Masculine Mescaline (1996)
Short, certainly not Sweet, but definately Sharp.
A short film that delivers in the 24 minute running time what most films fail to in 100 minutes. If anyone gets a chance to see this, make sure you don't miss it. A film that makes you think and feel. I just wish I knew where to get a copy from !!!
Kevin & Perry Go Large (2000)
No brainer with a great soundtrack
As you might expect, this is hardly Oscar material but it is a good laugh all the same. Enfield and Burke sucessfully bring the short sketch characters to the big screen far better than expected. Although the storyline is paper thin (and that's a compliment), there are enough jokes in there to make the film worthwhile. The main plus of the film though has to be the soundtrack which had my foot tapping throughout the 90 minutes. Chances are if you pass this in the video shop and pause for a brief moment in two minds about how awful it is probably going to be and how they have ruined a good tv sketch, then you will be pleasantly surprised. If you never liked the tv sketch then don't bother as you will hate it.
Funny, Original(ish), Well worth a look.
If you are after a light hearted evening, whack on your dvd player and slap this in. Great fun, amusing, original(ish) with some great performances by the actors. Jerry is in fine slapstick form and Shannen is as sexy as ever.
