Cold Creepy Feeling (2010)
Trust me it's good advice: Don't watch this film. I have to be completely honest and admit I turned it off after I think around 10 minutes into the film, but from the start it is obvious that it is terrible. The acting is terrible, the camera work is terrible, everything is really terrible. Even shots of the scenery were lame. What came to mind while watching it was this: 'Think about all the badly made films you have seen and then watch this to see what's good about them.' It really is worth watching the first five minutes though....... It is hilarious, though it has been some hours now that I saw it and at first I was just upset that it wasn't something (at least) watchable. And to be fair: Who knows after 10 minutes it all might have fallen right into place.
In Bruges (2008)
From start to finish this film is enjoyable. The only thing I wasn't really contend with was Colin Farell's portrayal of his character, but it was acceptable enough to me to enjoy the film. And it wasn't bad at all. Perhaps it played a part that I'm not a very big fan of his work in general and started to watch with some scepticism. In Bruges is funny here and there, I laughed out loud a few times and the action is good. Sometimes the dialogues seemed to be a bit forced, trying to be cool and funny and not working out like that, but nothing hysterically bad. In my opinion it is not a very good film, but it is 4decent and enjoyable and has some very good things in it that are worth seeing. Certainly there are many many worse films out there. And the midget should never kill himself, great performance!!!! :)
Donkey Punch (2008)
Not a good one.
It does contain spoilers....
If you are looking for a good film.... This is not it. The idea of some guys with some girls on a boat out on the sea, doing drugs, 'partying' and then an accident happening and things getting out of hand while everybody is in outer space.... It's not a bad idea. This film however is just senseless. It shows almost zero insight in human behaviour.... I really don't feel like commenting more about it, just would like to point out that it is a disappointing film. And I didn't even expect much from it. It began OK, until the actual Donkey Punch, from there it just started to become more and more dreadful. It could've been better in many ways, almost all. Though the acting of the female actors was OK (Jaime Winstone was also good in Dead Set) and some of the guys weren't all that bad either. The problem is the storyline. Perhaps next time involve a decent psychologist in the writing process.... Or just someone with common sense. "Common sense is not so common", presumably said by Voltaire. Hence the fact there are so many mediocre or worse films. Anyways I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Not to be an ass really. I wish the writers the best of luck and hope they will do better than this in the future.
Looks nice and it is not that bad....
What makes a film a good film? The most important things in a film are for me that the film keeps my attention and that it is enjoyable to me. The best films are the ones that grip you from the start and drag you along for the ride, keeping your attention close to the screen and your thoughts and emotions connected to the storyline. Not disappointing you too much so you don't snap out of it. And preferably of course giving you the feeling you are really getting satisfied and entertained by it. Reaching the end without any real let downs. For some genres people more specifically love they can swallow sometimes more nonsense without letting it bother them, or sometimes less. A good film in a more favourite genre gives some more special kind of satisfaction and joy. Films about aliens seem to have always been quite popular, specifically the ones that contain a lot of action. Well this film falls into that category. Aliens attack the planet for no apparent reason, which is OK, because we all can come up with some reasons for it, or have no problem with not knowing. I didn't spend much time wondering 'why do they attack?'. It's not that kind of film. They just attack. At start I was glad it didn't seem to be as terrible as people seem to think. There is always someone shouting worst film ever. I don't think I have seen the worst film ever, nor will I ever know unless I have seen them all. Who knows, it might turn out to be really hard to make the worst film ever.... Anyways, I think the problem with this film was simply that it is hard to really get into. I felt at start I got into it somewhat, but it just didn't keep my attention very well. The special effects were interesting, the design of the creatures also. I think I would've liked them more if I had liked the film better. I didn't get very excited about them, but there didn't seem to be much wrong with them either. What was interesting to me was how the more little ones flew through the air like some sort of jellyfish swimming through the water. Though at a certain point it became a bit hilarious that each time there was an overall shot of the part of the city the characters were in there was one of these "little ones" flying by. Luckily when I started to wait for the next one, afraid it would come again (and knowing then I would probably start laughing), there came no more.... I didn't have many problems with the film, not many specific annoyances. It's just a very simple film storywise. I thought the ending was a bit silly. DON'T READ ON IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW THE ENDING.... It didn't really strike me as very interesting how the guy seemed to have managed to take control inside some kind of alien machine. Yay, there is hope, some people can resist it.... Or, he can resist it and some can, but they will get destroyed anyways. Or perhaps it was just him. I think without hoping for much more than nice special effects and a pretty standard story, without hoping for nothing great or very good.... This could be decent to watch. For me it just feels like it was okay to watch, but it didn't make much impact. Just another too standard film, that didn't justify the good special effects. I do not regret having watched it though, but then again I never regret anything I watched. One can always stop watching. Or when stuck in cinema and not wanting to leave, just to think about something else or close your eyes and enjoy the colours. It is not that bad, just not really good either. It is somewhat comparable to AVP (2004), though that sucked more, because it had to be worthy of using the predators and aliens. I hope the directors will learn and improve or hire someone who can help them to make use of the good special effects team. Good luck!
