Finding 'Ohana (2021)
Good family watch
This is like a less revolutionary mix of goonies and Indiana Jones. Too many snobs acting like it should be on that level. My 12 and 10 year old girls loved this movie, and I enjoyed it too. Plenty of excitement, adventure, cheese and eye roll moments. Who cares. Grow up and watch the damn kids movie.
Schulz Saves America (2020)
Truly Significant
Yes, it's extreme rapid fire, scripted, and nothing like a regular stand up special. Still, it's a better format than Kevin Hart's latest attempt, and if wanted more of that eletist garbage...mk.
I'm not usually a bug fan of news cycle humor, but the pace at which Schultz weaves together headlines and social issues from 2020, the most constant and divisive news cycle of the century, is very impressive and poignant. He illustrates the sensationalism and hypocrisy that has our nation on the brink of civil war as of December 2020, and if enough of the radicalized nutjobs could see this and take it to heart, we could get back to a baseline of tempered discourse, and it might actually...save America.
The Uninvited (2009)
The best horror in years, and better than the original
I could not have asked for any more from this movie. It is the first movie of this genre in years to rival the quality of the Sixth Sense. Near the end, I was thinking, "decent horror thriller". There was none of the immature, morbidly indulgent sexuality so common in horrors these days, and the plot had panned out as well as could be expected. Then came the twist, which was eloquently crafted and incredibly surprising. Immediately, your mind pours over the film, looking to dissect the non-existent inconsistencies, and minutes later, you're just left thinking "wow...".
Well written, directed, acted, and far better than the original - in every aspect. I think your perception of the two largely depends on the order that you see them; however, there is hardly a comparison. After reading some of the reviews saying that Tale of Two Sisters was even better, we couldn't wait to see it. What a disappointment! Yes, the original reconciles its inconsistencies in the end, which is usually the cheapest way to throw in a plot twist, in my opinion, but the twist is still ambiguous in nature, and, while a movie can obviously not be appreciated in its entirety the first time through, the main plot points should be feasibly obvious. The scenes in Tale of Two Sisters were poorly integrated, and the twist, again, poorly defined. Even after reading the full explanation, hoping to find some more redemption there, I found little reason to appreciate the movie in all of its over-hyped brilliance.
To summarize, The Uninvited is an artful remake of its inadequately executed predecessor.
