Didi's Last Wish (2010)
One of the best of 2010
This movie was so touching, so funny, so well acted, that as soon as it ended, I had to watch it all over again. It was as good as any movie I've seen this year, or in the past couple of years. Bevan Leisner, the young woman who plays Didi, shows such grace, intelligence, and soulfulness on camera that I could not contain myself from weeping profusely when her character died. Mary Francis' depiction of Aunt Tab had me in stitches from start to finish. And the depiction of the fractured relationship between Didi's extremely distraught parents, played exceptionally well by Forrest Leisner and Domine Warren, was at the same time hilarious, and heartrending. This is the kind of movie that you really cherish, that keeps you up at night thinking about it. This is truly one of the greats.
The Betrayal of Velvet Fox (2010)
Damn good movie
The Betrayal of Velvet Fox, a modest, low-budget action thriller, blew me away. I couldn't decide if it was the humor, the action, the acting, or the technical skill of the production that had me in seventh heaven, but then I realized that it was all of that. Bevan Leisner, Forrest Leisner, and the rest of the cast shine in one of the best short films I've seen in a long time. The story seems at first to be your average revenge film plot. A secret agent betrayed by her employers must find out why she was betrayed. But the film tells its story in a very sincere and original way. I suggest you seek it out.
