Rose Red (2002)
not original, but quite good
This is strangely enough not an original. This seems to be a combination of the Haunting and the Legend of Hell house. The second being very very good, but a little clinical when it was released in the 70's.
The story is really good and the special effects are quite good. The story does unfold like a real Stephen King (which makes it a 200+ minutes result), and he does appear for a brief minute, which the King fans always like.
The movie does have a few hickups, but that will not deter any viewer. The house is a lot more elaborate and the Haunting (the remake) has something similar, except for the conclusions. The locations are stunning and the twists are quite good. Nancy is magnificent as the professor who loses it and overall the acting is definitely above standard and far above average.
This DVD can really make for a nice winter evening at home.
The Incredibles (2004)
The story of superheros going in hiding. The story behind it is great fun to see. the animations are as only Pixar can do it and the way it is all brought is better then excellent.
The point with Pixar is not and should never be.... is it better then the previous one?
This movie brings fun and entertainment. It bites a few superheros and makes fun of a few past superhero movies. I had great fun watching it and i think that this is another movie where the parents will love it even more then the kids they bring to watch it.
The last few movies made gold for Pixar and this one will bring it's own share of gold.
A defenite must to see in these days preceeding Christmas (and thanks giving)
Love Actually (2003)
many story lines build an excellent theme.
You can believe that it is a movie that you should not miss. You can think it is an all star cast, you might even entertain the thought that it is an instant classic.
I personally believe that this is one of these rare movies where the story carry the players through. Where you the viewer will be relaxing for almost 2 hours in a most excellent piece of editing and directing. The non-stars shine as good as the stars themselves. the movie is filled with punns and jokes that will make you want to see it more then once (on DVD). The movie will not bore you for one moment. The characters, and stories come together on several points and it is because of this that i regard it a top quality movie.
I initially went to see Emma Thomson, Alan Rickman, Hugh Grant and Colin Firth in action. I ended up seeing a lot more then i expected. One of these rare moments where expectations got exceeded on thee big screen. Watch this movie when you are down, and you will feel better.
