The Da Vinci Code (2006)
This is an excellent MOVIE (keyword: movie).
I can see only one reason why anyone would vote below, say, a 7 for this movie: if it made them question their faith and they resent such a thing happening. Of course, if a movie can make you question your faith, then it wasn't very strong to begin with.
The movie itself is very well made. Direction, acting, cinematography, art direction/set decoration, action, pacing, etc. I did not feel there were any plot holes; it is a complete movie. I felt that it was gripping, exciting, suspenseful, intelligent, and even had a bit of humor thrown in at the right moments (so you could shift in your seat, relax again, and move on). People at my screening all laughed out loud at funny moments, but were otherwise quiet and seemingly enthralled throughout the rest of the film. I even heard several gasps here and there. A few people clapped at the end. My wife said the look on my face was perfect for someone who hadn't read the book (she has read it). She gives the movie a 9 as well, and a 7 when comparing it TO the book (which she said was a 10).
Yes, the movie is a statement, but it isn't trying to convert everyone. It's just giving you another theory about what may have happened. In all honesty though, I do find it a very convincing theory/story.
I believe everyone SHOULD see this movie, if for no other reason than to defy the governments and churches that are trying desperately to continue controlling the masses. Why would they care so much about a movie unless it scared them? It doesn't take much to realize that powerful people fear losing their power. I think this movie at least gives us pause to think about the things we've been told to just blindly accept for all these years.
Myself? I'm not religious at all. I found that the movie simply confirmed the things I already wondered about and/or doubted about Christianity anyway.
