a list of 67 titles
These are my All Time Top 60 (or so) Favorite Movies & Film Series, beginning with my #1 all-time favorite movie & continuing in descending order. To put it quite simply, these are movies/film series that I have fallen in love with & (in most cases) end up watching over & over again - an important distinction which means this list does not necessarily include films which I might consider the 'greatest' movies or the 'best' movies I have seen because I don't necessarily want to see something like 'Schindler's List' over and over again. This also means there are numerous guilty pleasures listed which I unapologetically admit to loving and watching repeatedly.

With the exception of a few titles addressed below, all titles are theatrically released, non-documentary, feature length films. This list includes every title/film series I have rated as 10 out of a possible 10 (10/10) - which currently includes the top 48 or so titles - & others currently rated 9/10 which are on the cusp of being upgraded to 10/10. Additional "Honorable Mention" 9/10 titles which are on the verge of possibly being added to this list are included in a footnote at the bottom.

The following TV Movies and Documentaries are of such a high caliber, and films I am so passionate about, that I can not exclude them on a technicality, and thus am including them as the last entries in this list:
• Mandela and de Klerk (1997 TV Movie)
• The Up Series (1964-present Documentaries)

Here is a link to my list titled All Time Top 250± Favorite Movies & Film Series (Chronological Listing of All Films Rated 9/10 & 10/10) consisting of all 10/10 rated films (all of which appear on this 60± list) and ALL 9/10 films (only a few of which appear on this 60± list) - all of which are theatrically released, non-documentary, feature length films/film series along with a small (but slightly larger) selection of TV Movies, TV Mini-Series, and Documentaries I am passionate about. An explanation of how I rate movies, & why I group films into film series, is also provided in a lengthy footnote at the bottom of that list.

a list of 250 titles
This is a chronological listing (by year of release) of my All-Time Favorite Movies & Film Series - which is in the ballpark of 250 films depending on how they are counted. This list includes every title I have rated as either a 10 out of a possible 10 (10/10) or 9 out of a possible 10 (9/10). Current "Honorable Mention" 8/10 titles which are on the verge of possibly being promoted to a 9/10 and added to this list, and current 9/10 titles on the verge of possibly being demoted to an 8/10 and dropped from the list, are included in a footnote at the end of this list.

Over the past half century I have seen about ±3,600 theatrically released, non-documentary, feature length films. Of those:
• ±2.2% = 10/10 rating
• ±5.4% = 9/10 rating
=============================
• ±7.6% rated 9/10 or 10/10 (films in this list)

Also, of these ±3,600 films:
• ±220 or so (±6.2%) = silent movies
• ±300 or so (±8.5%) = foreign language films

Some film series are broken up to show each title individually within the list (i.e. Godfather, Three Colors trilogy). Other film series are designated with only a single list entry corresponding (usually) to the first film of the series - with all of the additional films within the series listed ONLY within the descriptive note for the representative film (i.e. Thin Man, Andy Hardy, Beach Party, Harry Potter, Bourne trilogy, The Up Series). As noted within a footnote at the end of this list, if all film series are broken up into individual titles, this list would include over 290 individual titles.

With the exception of a few titles addressed below, all titles within this list are theatrically released, feature length narrative films. However, the following TV Movies, TV Mini-Series, and Documentaries are films of such a high caliber and/or films I have fallen in love with - criteria which compel me to include them in this list because it doesn't feel right to exclude them on a technicality:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
• Mandela and de Klerk (1997 TV Movie)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
• Rich Man, Poor Man (1976 TV Mini-Series)
• Roots (1977 TV Mini-Series)
• Dekalog (1989 TV Mini-Series)
• From the Earth to the Moon (1998 TV Mini-Series)
• John Adams (2008 TV Mini-Series)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
• The Up Series (1964-present Documentaries)
• A Brief History of Time (1991 Documentary)
• What the #$*! Do We (K)now!? (2004 Documentary)
• Cave of Forgotten Dreams (2010 Documentary)
• To Be Takei (2014 Documentary)
• Life Itself (2014 Documentary)
-------------------------------------------------------------------

It is important to note that my ratings are based on how much I 'love' the movie & thus do not necessarily include films which I might consider the 'greatest' movies or the 'best' movies I have seen because I don't necessarily want to see something like 'Schindler's List' over & over again. This also means there are numerous guilty pleasures listed which I unapologetically admit to loving and watching repeatedly. An explanation of how I rate movies, & why I group films into film series, is provided within a lengthy footnote at the end of this list.

List tracking 2014 films receiving the most Oscar buzz for Best Picture nominations, & leading candidate(s) to win Best Picture. This list will be periodically revised up to the Feb 22 Oscar telecast.

KEY DATES:
▪ Thursday, January 15, 2015 = Oscar Nominations announced
▪ Sunday, February 22, 2015 = 87th Academy Awards

The order below reflects my current analysis and opinions on which 2014 films will receive the most serious Oscar consideration for Best Picture Oscar nominations. Eventually, the #1 film on the list will be that which I am predicting will win the Academy Award for Best Picture.

My predictions as listed herein are based largely on a "Nate Silver like" weighted spreadsheet analysis of prognostications of leading experts and websites which are summarized in footnotes at the end of this list. After identifying the leading consensus candidates for best picture nominations, I try and watch those films near the top of this list (as they become available) which appear to be locks (or near locks) to receive a BP nomination. After watching these movies, I then adjust my predictions based on my personal critical analysis of the film, and my opinion about the likelihood of the film getting a BP nomination based on my knowledge of Oscar history, Oscar campaign strategies, Oscar politics, etc.

The first grouping of films are those I am predicting are locks to receive best picture nominations (a minimum of 5 films will be nominated). The next grouping of films are those that might be nominated (between 0 and 5 additional films might be nominated in addition to the 5 minimum if they receive enough qualifying votes - meaning a maximum of 10 films). The next grouping of films are those on the bubble. The list ends with films that are extreme long shots to be nominated.

Those 5-12 or so films which I believe are in serious contention for receiving a best picture nomination (based on both my analysis and opinions) include a colored note describing the film's CURRENT chances for receiving a Best Picture nomination. Any film not including such a note are currently considered LONG SHOTS for receiving a Best Picture nomination.

13 of the 16 prognostications lists used to help create this list included a prediction of the Best Picture winner, which cumulatively included the following five films (all of which also include a corresponding note below):
Boyhood (predicted BP winner on 5 of 13 lists)
Unbroken (predicted BP winner on 4 of 13 lists)
Gone Girl (predicted BP winner on 2 of 13 lists)
The Imitation Game (predicted BP winner on 1 of 13 lists)
Selma (predicted BP winner on 1 of 13 lists)

At present, the "Gold Derby" website appears to have the best sample size comprised of (1) Experts, (2) Editors, (3) Top Users. The "Gurus of Gold" panel on the "Awards Daily" website appears to have the next best sample size consisting of 12 experts. For this reason, the placement of each of the films listed below within these two lists are provided.

Release dates are shown since about half of the films haven't been released yet.

Films which I have seen (and thus rated) include the note:
***** I'VE SEEN & RATED X/10 *****

The 26 films listed below were present on at least 7 of the 16 prognostications lists, with 1 exception (an extreme long shot to receive a BP nominations) which includes the note:
(appearing on only 4 of 16 lists)

Changes in placement within each revision of this list are included in brackets such as: [20>11>10]

Beyond the top 5, title order is not exact beyond the groupings of films into common 1-10 ratings groups (with the exception of the final 4 "worst" films which are in order). I will be revisting this list to slowly refine and put into exact order.

For now, the list is structured as follows based on 1-10 ratings: #1-#6 (10/10 IN ORDER); #7-#8 (9/10 IN ORDER); #9-#19 (8/10 in no particular order); #20-#41 (7/10 in no particular order); #42-#73 (6/10 in no particular order); #74-#83 (5/10 in no particular order); #84-#87 (4/10 IN ORDER)
