Writers are under-aged morons who have no clue about comedy
When will Hollywood comedies of this decade hire writers who at least have a clue of comedy? Why hire immature morons who think the idea of a dick is funny and can replace a good script. Hollywood seems to be obsessed with male nudity and full frontal at that in this decade. If it is in the right context it could be funny but haven't seen one this decade. What happened to the writers of 40-year old virgin, knocked up,etc? This movie is a pathetic excuse for a comedy and is particularly sad since there was an opening for a new franchise which has been firmly grounded. Avoid if you are lucky and watch 'Central Intelligence' if you want to see the Rock in a good comedy!
War Machine (2017)
Why even attempt a comedy when you don't have a clue?
Brad Pitt had the comedic touch in the movie 'Mexican'. He was not too bad in the Coen brothers movie either. Here he is abysmal, lost and just so bad it is depressing. He would have been served well watching Peter Sellers in the Pink Panther movies to understand how to pull of a silly character who thinks too much of himself.Instead he tries to be funny as in a sitcom and sadly even fails at that. Does Netflix have way too much money to just waste money on such low quality projects? This movie should be shown to all who are in the process of making comedies to understand what can go wrong. Hope Pitt gets a better shot soon!
An opportunity missed by the creators! Dull and Documentary-ish!
This starts of very well with a hint of glamorous journey as Playboy ticks of the decades with the changes in culture with a sense of fun. By the third episode it has descended into a documentary -style BORING recap of events.
What cannot be ignored or pardoned is the ridiculous foray into Martin Luther Kings Life, racism and how Playboy had a role in that! There is even a line saying' the MLK walk began a few months after the Playboy interview'! Give me a break. The attempts to show that the nudie magazine helped feminism ,sexism,Vietnam war,Kennedysetc in its own way is vomit-inducing to say the least! What would America do without Playboy!
This should have been a journey through the culture (60s,70s,80s) and a fun journey with a wink to the viewer.Instead it takes itself too seriously and dare I say BORING to say the least! The attempts to extend each strand of story just a bit longer just to extend to a few seasons has the the opposite effect where the viewer has lost interest if any further seasons are ever produced!
Expected better from both Amazon and Hefner.
Bloated,Derivative and barely better than Quantum of Solace!
How can you making a James Bond film boring? Well, there are very many answers to that question here. This a bloated, over long (last 30 minutes could be chopped off), slow and uninspiring Bond movie which should surely end the association of Daniel Craigs,Sam Mendes,Sam Smith and co from the Bond Series.
What's right about it :
The opening sequence, intro scene to Spectre and a few light hearted moments
What's Ordinary about it: Pretty much everything. Firstly it is bloated and overlong with the last 30 minutes feeling like the last 30 of Terminator Genisys. We all know what's going to happen and just waiting for the sequences to end.Not a good feeling.
The title song is a good song although does not suit the Bond Film. Similarly it felt the title sequence was uninspired by the theme and CGI with snakes awful. One of the worst title sequences of Bond films.
Editing is the worst possible.Every scene appears to be about 5 second too long making the movie slow and heavy. The usual pace of a Bond movie is missing and all the actors seem slow and uninterested.
Acting seems uninspired and possibly uninterested? It felt like an Old Man's Bond movie with all main players in their 50s(??) - the 40-plus but older looking Craig,Ralph Fiennes,Cristoph Waltz,Monoca Bellucci in her 3 minute role, etc The other heroine Lea is a good actress but not suited for a Bond Girl role. Her eyes look sad and full of emotion and just did not have the glamour for a Bond Movie.
Pray tell me,why are Daniel Craig's suits and shirts so tight except in the last scene which was a proper Saville Row suit.
Why was the theme song or even the Bond theme not used in the movie except in about 3-4 scenes. The rest of the time it is some loud action sound going on all the time?!
This has to be the end of the Collaboration of Sam Mendes and Bond Movies. This is an ordinary Bond Movie and barley better than Quantun of Solace but barely. The gold standard still appears to be Craig's 'Casino Royale'.
Formulaic - Ordinary rom-com about people with limited social skills!
It started well, but too formulaic for my liking, with all the clichés possible to elicit sympathy from the audience.
There's very little maths or for anyone interested in a peek into that world. This is almost a rom-com of awkward people with all possible derivative ideas.Sad ,really since there are too many, way too many romcoms about people with social skills but this was an opportunity to do something a little more ambitious.
Its not even the usual British Oscar bait - British films which are clearly made only to get an Oscar Nomination- and hope for some DVD sales and publicity thereon. It is too lightweight for even that!
A waste of time as there are far, far better romcoms about people with limited social skills. Brilliant minds? Forget about it - there's nothing brilliant - just an average lazy,Sunday afternoon TV bait!
A Most Violent Year (2014)
Just above average with the wrong Title!
This is an above average movie with good visuals.Period. Firstly, the title is wrong and misleading. The film is a character driven story of survival of a an executive ala Michael Clayton. This should be made clear to the viewer and there's no relation to the statistically most violent year. This may have been the reason for its failure. Secondly, the story is wafer thin and two hours is too long a time for very little or more of the same thing.Opportunities where the plot could be made more involved or complex are lost. The movie had to retain a sense of dread like Michael Clayton but is unable to hold the attention despite the impressive first 20 minutes. Thirdly, the some story lines did not fit the tone of the movie. The overlong chase by Abel to track the van driver felt like it belonged to a Bond or Bourne movie.Suddenly, our hero is transformed from an ordinary man to something else! Lastly, the suicide in the end does not add anything to the story and simply adds some vague angle to the story. It's an above average movie but basically a missed opportunity!!
Penny Dreadful (2014)
Can we call this just plain 'Dreadful' ?
Penny Dreadful started out as a Period Horror with extreme violence and a great cast. The first two episodes do match the expectations and although literally quite bloody, held your interest. It introduced an amalgamation of literary characters from Frankenstein,Dorian Gray,Van Helsing and so on. The set pieces and cinematography is above average and is actually very similar in mood to Hannibal which is set in a different era altogether. That's the good bit. Since then, it feels as if the director and creator have just got lost in the pursuit of edgy and ultra violent horror and forgot the script. Its a bit like watching a movie with great CGI where you can chomp on your pop corn until the next great set piece.Similarly here, there are many places where you could fast forward missing absolutely nothing. In fact even missing some episodes may not make any difference to viewing. Depiction of bloody, real bloody violence, explicit sex and horror make-up does not make a good engaging horror/thriller. This one is a let down and sadly so.
This is the Pits! Dare you to find a serial that is worse than this one!
This is the most awfully directed and acted serial this year. It had a good promise - A movie which is well loved by a whole lot of us and a Producer who also takes an interest in its direction in Robert Rodriguez.
But after watching the first five episodes I must say this is the absolute pits among TV dramas this year. The acting is non-existent,the CGI is awful, the story never gets any where and the direction makes you wonder whether anyone is doing any job at all. How can you get it so wrong? For all those who wondered whether it is too late to join in, please do not worry as in five episodes, practically nothing happens! The characters are so badly written you do not care for any of them. The action sequences have a serious flaw - any one with half a brain knows the outcome of the fights even before the prolonged balletic shoot outs! Absolutely no suspense or imagination. The back stories are told repeatedly for whatever reason which the viewers just don't care. This is sad as it had a great promise for those looking for an alternative to the Twilight Vampire series. This is an absolute let down and a torture on the viewers. One can only hope it gets its deserved end soon.
This is so incredibly bad you cannot BELIEVE it!
This is just plain awful. It makes you wonder why the Hollywood Companies pay some of these writers at all.The story has been done to death and in addition just plain boring. The direction is poor and the acting worse.Don't really care about any of the characters and not helped one bit by some really poor writing. You would think at least some writer somewhere must have something new or original to write about. I don't have a lot of belief this one might get more than a season which makes you wonder if it is worth following at all.Lastly can the producers do us a favour and stop the sentimental music run through the scenes? It's hard to relate to it since we really don't care one bit.
Jodaeiye Nader az Simin (2011)
Breathtaking movie but hard to watch!
The movie was suggested to me by a friend and I am glad I took the advice. It is a magnificent movie in portraying real emotions and real people, something that resonates throughout the world. Although made in Iran, the movie could be set almost anywhere and will still have the same impact. The characters are real;not just black or white but always a touch of grey and brilliant at that.It is hard to watch at times as it is a honest portrayal and leaves a lasting impression. So many movies one hardly remembers once you step out of the theatre except for one or two scenes. It also raises the issue of why movies from other countries with similar non-Hollywood budgets aren't focused on story and characters.Admittedly French and Korean movies are exceptions to this rule. This movie is a must see and hopes it makes the list of everyone's list.
