The Omen (2006)
Best film this summer, surpasses the original
I enjoyed this film more than any I've seen this year. This film is certainly superior to the original, albeit highly derivative in script and dialogue. What this film has the original didn't is a great sense of style. The use of the color red. The overall pacing of the film. The suspension of villains until the very last possible instant (dogs in graveyard, Mrs. Baylock). This film grabs the viewer like the original could have only dreamed. Liev Schreiber and Julia Stiles are strong performers in this film, however, the supporting actors (David Thewlis, Michael Gambon, Pete Posthelwaite, Mia Farrow) deliver the performances that sell the film. The filmmakers made some excellent in choices in the use of sweeping boom shots and a certain darkness that gives the impression that something in the world isn't right. Go see it, see it ten times. I think this film should be nominated for best picture. Dig it.
