What though the radiance which was once so bright Be now for ever taken from my sight, Though nothing can bring back the hour Of splendor in the grass, of glory in the flower We will grieve not, rather find Strength in what remains behind
Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961)
Overrated, and disappointing
I'm a huge classic films fan, and obviously have heard of this film for many years but I wasn't able to watch it ever. A couple of weeks ago I decided to finally watch this film that I've heard such "great things about". All I can say is, what the heck are people smoking? This film is anything but a decent, well-composed , marvelous film as people rave about. Actually I'm pretty sure the only people who like this film either don't really watch classic films, or know very little about films in general. The film just drags along, and there really isn't any story behind the two main characters except their interaction with one another...boring! Oh yeah, maybe Audrey looks cute, but who cares how they're dressed. Everyone tells me the book is a lot better than the film, I bet they're right. I'd rather read the book than watch this incredibly over hyped film again. The only thing I really liked was Henry Mancini's score.
The Wind (1928)
I have no idea how this film bombed at the box office, because it was incredible to watch. Lars Hanson and Lillian Gish's acting steal the movie, but I found myself on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next all the way from the first scene to the last. That is what a movie is all about- making the viewer anticipate on what will happen next not just sit there and correctly guess scene after scene. I will say that I saw this film at the 2009 San Francisco Silent Film Festival with an AMAZING live wurlitzer-which added an extra element to the film that made it an amazing performance. What breaks and makes a silent film (usually but not always) is defiantly the score of the film, and i'm quite sure that Lillian Gish would have loved the live music!
Not very sci-fi as described
On the Opening night of the San Francisco Silent Film festival I was quite excited to see films that are historical and well not common. The guest speaker who opened this film created a sense of hype towards the obscurity, and how this film is underrated. The sci-fi part of the film was very interesting and fantastic for its time, but i'm not sure if it was due to the fact it was shown directly after the Brilliant 1928 "The Wind" or if it seemed that Russian filmmakers take after what Russian novels are famous for (hundreds of characters, tangled plots) but I know for certain that the dramatic parts, as in the parts on Earth, made absolutely no sense, were boring and I became lost within about twenty minutes. Maybe it was the acting but I found myself convinced as to why this film is "unknown and underrated": It's boring, there is no plot or basic story and the acting is horrible. This certainly is no "Battleship Potemkin", however I will say that Russian films do not make a real good effort in lightning up what life in Russia is like.
Party Monster (2003)
Underrated and Overlooked
I loved this movie! It was strange to see Seth Green in makeup, weird costumes but it only made it more fascinating to watch. I love Chloe Sevingy, the part as perfect for her. I think the party scenes were so unique and obscure that it made you watch the entire film. The only negative thing from this film was the drug use, made me realize I will never take drugs. I think the costume set director should receive good remarks for their work, the costumes on this set were amazing! I think the movie is overlooked by actors dressed in drag, homosexuality, or bisexuality, and guys in makeup and drugs. Yes, drugs are used every 50 seconds of the film, but without the drugs the whole plot of the story would be ruined! the entire moral of the story would not exist and what would be the point to make a movie out of a true story? Morals of the stories? Don't take drugs, and party scenes make look fun but deep down there is disturbance awaiting to happen. Look at Studio 54...
Romeo and Juliet (1968)
Beautiful & Amazing!
There are few things on this planet that bring me joy and at the same time sadness. Romeo and Juliet is one of them. No other movie besides this have I felt so much over fictitious characters in my entire life. I have been told and learned that love is beautiful and when you see your soul mate it is magical, but I learned myself what true love is. I was so tied into this epic of a movie that I told myself it was real, this wasn't a movie. It felt real, as if I was watching it in live action not just on a screen. Everything was perfect in this movie. The clothing made it more realistic, the actors were selected as if by God for these parts, the music and the scenery. the scenery was just breath taking and made everything imaginable. If Shakespeare as alive today, I think he would be very, very fond of this movie. In fact, I think he would love it and be very proud. Romeo and Juliet is a play which can be extorted in different ways to suit the directors need, Zeffirelli took this play and created a in-living- colour masterpiece. I am so jealous that my father, who was a freshman in high school when this came out, was able to on a field trip go to Hollywood to see this in theaters. This is my favourite movie for many reasons, one of them being it makes me bawl so hard I practically melt away my face, it makes me understand love in a different view (i'm fifteen.) and I have fallen in love with Shakespeare's work. I think of Shakespeare is a shear genius. How could someone think of a story like this? I know I couldn't, could you? I think the direct quite,"For never was a story of more woe, than this of Juliet and her Romeo." sums up everything perfectly.
She's Too Young (2004)
So realistic it's shocking
As being a fourteen year old this movie seemed like everyday at middle school. There are so many fourteen year-olds (my age) having sex and some getting pregnant some even getting HIV, and by the time I'm twenty the average age a child has sex will get even lower. This movie really made it clear what can happen if you act like a sleazebag and do what everyone else in the crowd is doing. I am not one of those followers people mostly copy me, [everyone copies my trends], but no one at my school has sex. Some are kissing but not going any further than that. The funny thing is all the girls at my school who get asked out are either ugly or very stupid.
teen mum by day dancer by night
About 76% of all the Rap lover at my school were dying to see this flick I on the other hand did not want to see this Grade F movie for 9 dollars. But sadly, I did and I really wish i didin't.Do not see this movie it is the worst.
The O.C. (2003)
I live in Orange County and I am disgusted by what people ask me due to the television show.
No.everyone in orange county is NOT rich. No.orange county isn't big. No we don't go through our "rich people issues" by doing drugs and having sex.
It seems that people only like that fact about me is that I can relate to the television show because It's about 'orange county" where about not even 1 % of the population is rich or ever will be.
wow this was majorly über-boring
I have been a big fan of reese for about five years, and I hate to say, this movie was not worth 97 minutes of my time. The first one was really funny. But, this one, some parts were funny but the plot, doing all this for her dog?!Reality check, no one would do that and if someone did they are crazy. It didn't really make sense, the plot didn't.I would really not try to see this in theaters, wait for cable so you don't have to waste five dollars.
what really goes on in some highschools.
*Below first Melanie Griffith did not just say '2 lines" she played Kat's best friend's mother. So obviously you did not see the whole movie.i liked this movie.I understood it.How many people 'try' to fit in school?A lot.And this is what happens at alot of schools, drugs, sex, popularity and sometimes even death. There are so many people today trying to get in a 'in-crowd' and they will do anything to get that place in the in-crowd.But sometimes when people try to get in the in-crowd they ignore whats around them and only pay attention to whats happening in their lives.
