A Personal Victory for Anthony Wong
22 April 2003
An average film compared to director Ann Hui's more captivating works. But it's still well worth a viewing if simply for Anthony Wong's perfect portrayal of Father Peter Kam. The actor, who has appeared in too many lame films for his own good, finally landed a role which does justice to his superb acting.

A Disappointment
22 April 2003
Arguably the worst movie by director Ann Hui. Ann being eulogized for her talent of walking a tightrope between being commercial and being artistic, this one just falls between two stools and fails to satisfy anyone. Probably most notable for being the last film of the Hong Kong diva Cherie Chung, who announced her marriage and retirement shortly before the shooting had been finished.

Ann Hui's First Movie
22 April 2003
The movie is based on a true story where a young couple was brutally murdered by a madman in the 70's Hong Kong. Sylvia Cheung plays the dead girl's best friend and is trying to find out what's really happened to her friend. As the story unfolds, nothing is what it initially seems. Ann Hui's first and probably her best movie. The movie beautifully captures the atmosphere of the 70's Hong Kong, where the conflicting impacts of East and West were still obvious. A must-see for noir fans.
