The Galaxy Invader (1985)
Equal to Troll 2 and Plan 9 from Outer Space
The premise for this movie is simple: Alien crashes on Earth and then gets chased by rednecks in the woods. Hilarity ensues.
I was first made aware of this movie by RedLetterMedia, who praised it for its cheesy 80's camp and unintentionally hilarious portrayal of domestic violence. After seeing it for myself, I can easily say that this film is a rare gem to be treasured, and placed alongside other so-bad-they're-good classics, like Troll 2 and Plan 9. I couldn't force myself to give this movie over 5 stars, since it is horrible in almost every category (acting; special effects; writing; lighting; etc.), but it earns every single one of those stars by being one of the funniest movies ever made. It gives you everything you could ask for and more: Man threatening to knock his wife's lights out (check), man chasing his daughter through the woods with a shotgun over a simple argument (check), man choking out an alien with a tree branch (check), man attempting to rape a woman who comes over looking for her boyfriend (check), man killing said woman for escaping the rape (check), man dragging said woman's body off and then going back to drinking on the couch (check), an epic shotgun swing that is shot in multiple angles and slow motion (check), and finally the amazing payoff of that swing as it ends in a dummy being heaved off a cliff in comedic fashion (check). I know some of these topics sound serious, but they are executed in the most hilarious ways possible, that it is impossible not to burst out laughing. Finally, let me give some props to actor Richard Ruxton, who plays the drunken father (Joe Montague) at the center of all these hilarious events. Get prepared for comedy gold every time he comes on the screen (also be sure to check out that killer T-shirt of his). So, if you're into awful 80's horror cheese, and want to see some good unintentional comedy, check out The Galaxy Invader. You won't be disappointed.
