John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017)
Pls no part 3.
If i could give this 0 I would. Because literally, this is barely watchable. Most parts laughable. And yes, like some of the commenters who gave this thumbs down, we really did not watch the same movie as the ones who gave this 2 thumbs up.
Choreography is OK. Nothing spectacular. Same old shoot em up. Bash people in the head and oh, his famous kill-em with a pencil trick! There's some ridiculous shooting scenes in the subway, you will know when you get to it. It tries too much to be "cool"....but it turns into an awful, wannabe.
Bulletproof clothing, OK sure. And no one bothers to aim or jab at the head? He kills people just in time to take on new oncomers.
Impeccable timing. This is no John Wick. This is Superman reincarnated.
La cueva (2014)
realistic situation spiralling out of control
I absolutely hate found footage films. That being said...I don't hate this one.
Ever since the debut of Blair Witch, which is pretty much the only movie that captured the found footage genre well, I've tried to stay away from these types of movies. It just gives me motion sickness and it's nauseating. Also I find that I prefer normal storytelling rather than the POV perspective.
But having taken a chance on LA CUEVA, because I do enjoy movies such as Descent, I'm pleasantly surprised with this film. Very realistic and just goes to show human behaviour is all about survival of the smartest. The movie's great in that it makes friends become enemies and humans into beasts. We see that very soon once the cave explorers realizes their lost...and "hungry". It doesn't take long before the battle of the sexes come into play. And the whole concept of befriending an animal and then having to kill it came to my mind during one part of the movie.
Overall, it's a good watch - I'd give 6.5/10. I recommend anyone how usually sneer at found footage films to take a peek...it's a slow beginning but once they hit the cave, they descend pretty quickly.
The Longest Ride (2015)
More than just cowboys!
I am not a big fan of cowboys or anything connected to rodeo. But after watching Mr. Church with Brit Robertson, decided to give Longest Ride a try. Surprisingly good flick, not overly sappy romance...and it's more than just cowboys! Has a backstory that relates to art collecting so that's a bonus for me. Was at first dubious that Brit was any good; she actually looks way younger than her real age so some viewers may think that she is mis-casted. Think everyone's opinions vary. But think both leads did a good job and make a very good pairing. The thing I liked most about this flick is that it doesn't have a cliché, boring ending. Good to tie in to the overall sentiments.
Buy Now, Die Later (2015)
surprisingly good plot
Usually Korea and Thailand are top makers of horror movies. But in recent years, I've watched a few originating from Philippines which are surprisingly good and have quashed my fears of watching lower grade productions. The story mimics that of Wishmaster but taking place in an antiques store. The stories are intertwined and each "lesson" involves the 5 senses. These types of "wish more than you bargain for" movies often spells out the sin in all of us and serves as a reminder that fame and fortune has a big price tag. Definitely worth a watch.
Even though the FX department is a bit grade B, but the story makes up for it.
Odd Mom Out (2015)
Contemporary and realistically fun
There are some shows that you only watch 5 min and you know it's a total gem...this is it! It is refreshing and even though the plot/scenario (odd mom trying to survive a bunch of rich snobs) is done over and over...the jokes are incredibly funny and new! the casting is also fabulous, great chemistry and interaction between everyone. I know some people weren't pleased with the female lead and found her annoying...but I think she is suppose to be like this...chirpy and all over the place, scattered attention and trying to catch up to rich society.
Please give this a try!
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (2015)
Hate musicals...but damn, love this one~
Can't believe I dislike musicals most of the time but watching this trailer had me giving episode 1 a chance. And although, still wasn't sure after 1 episode, it slowly grows on you...the quirkiness, weirdness, and crazy premise ....and yes, the musical numbers really makes this a great show! The female lead, Rebecca, is perfect and entertaining. From looking like a homeless to a decking out looking like a million bucks, she fits the perfect mould for this character.
I suggest anyone to give it a try ...even if they ain't a musical fanatic...some of the songs are actually pretty darn funny! And this is highly original for a comedy!
This is an interesting low budget horror movie from Russia. Why there's potential in this flick is because of the storyline. Imagine yourself (mother or father) with your kid in a foreign land hunted by a pack of cannibals. Pretty scary enough being a foreigner who can't communicate with the locals but even worse that you are hunted and you have nowhere to turn to. The movie knows its limits with restraining budget so it cleverly uses certain scenarios to set up a few good scares and provides enough emotional chaos to keep you interested. Although a lot of yapping and unrealistic situations (ie. using a mobile to film nonstop without draining the battery) this film still proves entertaining.
If Hollywood ever remade this with bigger injection of funds, I think this could be a great hit.
The Golden Couple (2012)
modest little gem
from the trailer it looks like just another romance and what attracted me were the fancy cars! ...but after 2nd half it's predictable and you can see how the story and life lesson unfolds. The movie has a stellar cast, mostly Singaporeans, with the exception of the lead actor who is Taiwanese. i would highly recommend the film for anyone wanting a popcorn flick...and lots of bling to look at (fancy cars, watches, etc.) the jokes are pretty good and light hearted, and there's also a few moments that may tug at your heartstrings...really not what i expected and i guess that's why i liked this and this is easily one of my top 10's for Asian romance/comedies. i have found over the years, i've departed away from watching Asian comedies (with exception of korean movies) as it's lost its magic...but i think after this, i need to reinvestigate! this is a great little gem of a movie!
American Horror Story (2011)
so many things wrong with this series...tried watching season 1 because of all the great anticipation when it first began...stomached like 6 episodes before i finally called it quits...i call myself a horror buff cause i love to watch anything that can make one scream...but American horror story fails and lacks lustre.
nothing makes sense in this series, it just wants to scare u but i say not in the right way...i gave it 3 out of 10, 1 for the amazing cast they were able to assemble for this circus, 1 for awesome cinematography and mood, and 1 for that there are series that are similar to this
i do see a handful of reviewers who agree this series is promising yet disappointing on so many levels.
watch it for yourself and see if u like it enough to continue....to me it's a descent into boredom there are other series that are way better...
ABC does it great!
Country music is the last type of music I would be listening to.....but watching the trailer has got me interested enough to give this series a try...and I am super glad I did.
The cast is solid and the music is actually the highlight to the whole series. Didn't know the songs were performed by the actors as well! surprise surprise! Connie and Hayden the lead actresses show real talent in both acting and singing performances. Clare Bowen's duets with Sam Palladio was folksy but a dash of melancholy, perfect to listen to on a dreary lazy afternoon!
Great show...I hope it does not get cancelled soon. ABC always has great hits but cancels them way too soon!!
