Homecoming (2018)
Good concept, acting, but pacing and music were a mess.
Julia and the rest of the cast were fantastic, some really wonderful and memorable moments. The directing and camera angles also were excellent, so many interesting shots that helped tell the story in a unique way. There needed to be more events happening, lots of conversations that weren't necessary.
Also, the music was a mess, so inconsistent. It all sounded familiar, like the pieces were taken from other movies. They were all over the place, a strictly orchestral piece of modern classical (modern from the 70s) followed by an 80s sounding tune, it didn't help to unify or bring the show together in a consistent way and set a cohesive tone.
Life Itself (2018)
Predictable and poorly acted. Bad music choices.
I was very unhappy with this movie, and wanted to walk out halfway through. The acting by Olivia felt very fake, and unnatural, I could tell that she was acting during her scenes. Some of the songs in the movie were ok, but the underscore was very bland, predictable and dull. The music at the end of the film didn't really fit, and made the whole movie seem like an overly positive car commercial.
Bowie: The Man Who Changed the World (2016)
Horrible sound mix, too much fluff.
Not enough real info about his music, writing process, inspiration, and how he created his music. Too much info about inconsequential things. The entire production was marred by a horrible sound mix that was constantly loud then soft with no consistency. The music that they put in made it sound like a cheap expose from TMZ, and it had no relationship to the wonderful music that he wrote.
Bill Nye Saves the World (2017)
Thought provoking, but sometimes juvenile.
Great view of a lot of important topics in science today. The artificial intelligence episode has an amazing section about using an AI to create a Rembrandt portrait. There are a few parts that were juvenile, like the song and dance part of the Panspermia episode. It had no educational value, and brought down the quality of the whole episode. It's a good show to debunk pseudo science theories.
