Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)
I love Star Trek, but I really hate the new temporal line. Am I the only one?
I am a hardcore trekkie, I have seen the 714 episodes of the television series, I've seen all the movies dozens of times, in fact I melted the first fan club trekkie,in my country Guatemala, having saying that i think that i have the right to say that this is not star trek i was in the cinema and for a moment I thought I had the wrong function and had entered to Fast and Furious 6, I guess this generation is no longer the one who like the smart movies but only see people running and screaming, lots of explosions, and of course all above framed by amazing special effects (in the original Star Trek maybe effects were not as good but the stories indeed were good) Maybe it's time to recognize that and I'm getting old, but I really DO NOT like Star Trek into Darkness that should have name Star Trek XII More Fast and More Furious.
The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
How many times you could watch the same story?...until starts to become boring
boring, predictable, unnecessary, redundant, childish, silly, you name it. One-dimensional characters, that are just as good as dead, that tell a story that had been told in an excellent movie just 10 years ago. Do need I to say more? The only silver lining in this very bad movie, is the villain, the Lizard who really has screen presence, and of course because of the special effects ... so I give this poor attempt to reboot 5 points to 10. One tip, the persons that make this kind of movies, really think that the people who go to theaters and watch movies are stupid. So for once make that people suffer... and at least do not buy the DVD of this garbage.
You Got to be Kidding me!
After seeing Skyfall, I have to confess that I have mixed feelings, so I'll make a list of the things I liked about the movie, and things I did not like, and then I shall reach my conclusions. Things I liked 1. after 17 long years the producers finally decided to remove that old lady good for nothing Judi Dench (who have the bright idea of making an old lady, neurotic, and bipolar, M?) 2. After 50 years and 23 films, we finally have a look (very shallow) about Bond's life before joining the British Secret Service, In GoldenEye we knew that his parents died in a car accident, but now we know that his father was called Andrew Bond and an his mother Monique and that he was born and raised in Scotland, and we knew one, of his babysitters, Kingcade, and of course that he hated his parents' old house. 3. After 10 years of absence we see again Q and Moneypenny, and I think they did not disappoint, nor the new M disappoints. 4. Subtle references to the 22 previous films of the franchise and others not so subtle, a gay assassin, (The Diamonds are Forever), Aston Martin ASD5 (Goldfinger, Thunderball and Casino Royale) the "death" of Bond at the beginning of the movie (You Only Live Twice), the gun with sensors that respond to Bond's touch (License to kill), the murderer who uses bullets rare, expensive and difficult to find (the Man with the Golden gun), a renegade MI6 agent (GoldenEye), an explosion at the headquarters of MI6 (The World is not Enough), Q giving Bond a Walter PPK (Dr No) Bond chase by a helicopter (From Russia with Love), Bond on a frozen lake (The Living Daylights), Bond throwing a knife with deadly force (For Your Eyes Only), Bond fighting on the roof of a train (Octopussy) Bond bearded (Die Another Day), mention the ancestors of Bond (on Her Majesty's Secret Service), a motorcycle chase on rooftops (Tomorrow Never Dies) Bond looking for a microchip at the beginning of the movie (A View to a Kill), Bond with a not very clever black female companion (Live and let die), and Bond killing a guy who could provide a vital clue to the whereabouts of the villain (Quantum of Solace) Things I did not like:
Two things i don't like it first, it's to believe for a normal human being survive a shot by a high powered rifle, dropped from a height of over 50 meters into the water, drop by a waterfall and still barely survive without sequels! that's it! , even for those who are hardcore, James Bond fans, that's too much to believe! second, why in the name of heaven, they didn't put the bloody gun barrel sequence at the beginning of the movie!!!! OK let's give them the the benefit of the doubt, we have to wait the next two films already announced to see if the franchise survives its "reinvention"
Ripley's Believe It or Not! (1999)
nothing but a bunch of freaks
It's amazing how time has passed since the excellent TV series from the 80's that was hosted by Jack Palance, the difference between that show and this is one is completely abysmal. Besides the unique charm and charisma that Mr. Palance put in his performance and in every story, the unique presentation of the cases, not only fantastic human oddities, but historical, animal kingdom, curiosities, technology etc, was fascinating and bizarre, and at the same time, attractive, I never missed a episode, the opposite of what this show is, a lot of crazy trying to get attention and besides, with the very bad performance of Dean Cain, who apparently did not have enough destroying the superman character...
In my country, Guatemala, Star Trek is not a very popular show, in fact, is almost unknown to the vast majority of people, Star Trek DS9 was broadcast intermittently on a schedule that made him inaccessible (12.00 am, 1 am) so because of that and my work, even though I consider myself a true trekkie, it is only now that I could buy it on DVD and see it orderly DS9 series. Far Beyond the Stars, was by far one of my favorite episodes, the story of black writer Benny Russell that at one point could be considered the "" creator "of the Star Trek universe, it was absolutely fascinating. And it is not until now, October 15, 2012, 14 years after it were originally broadcast, that i finally could watch the episode Shadows and Symbols, and once again the story of Benny Russell, really leaves me speechless, what a brilliant combination of wit, moral lesson, what a brilliant episode. Avery Brooks and the rest of the cast were superb! Guess that's why I love you so much Star Trek, because using my imagination is capable of transporting me to distant worlds and even there, give me a lesson on how to live my life, how to face the challenges of everyday ...it teaches me about being the dream and the dreamer.
Age of the Dragons (2011)
an insult to a classic!
catered only 10 minutes watching this "movie" to realize that they had completely tainted the novel Moby Dick. Oh God, Mr. Melville must kick in his grave every time this "movie" is projected or seen or even mentioned. It is truly remarkable that Hollywood screenwriters, are empty minded completely out of ideas, and every day the only thing that matters is to put one or two fairly known actors, some cgi some muscular guy and a hot girl in a "movie" to assure the investment. The era of smart movies with meaning, with a moral lesson has ended, I am 42 years old, and I must say that my generation was the last which saw a movie with sense.
The Tall Man (2012)
mindless and confusing
do not really know where to start, a premise that promised much, that at some point offers an interesting twist, suddenly becomes hazy, lost, meaningless. Poor excuse for a thriller, trying to make the audience think, in the end, no one knows what the hell happened, or because what happened happened .... there are too many unanswered questions for my liking, and if it comes to ramble, I prefer at the end the filmmaker tell me what he was thinking, and not try to figure it out myself. Save your money, not even Jessica Biel worth it, stay at home, read a book, go shopping avoid this movie at all cost, do not waste your time watching this ridiculous version of The Messengers
Star Trek: Voyager: Gravity (1999)
this episode deserve 9 stars!
This episode certainly has all the elements that made Star Trek, the most successful science fiction franchise in the history of entertainment. Let's see: it explains in a truly masterful way , the effects, according to general relativity theory of Einstein, that occur near a singularity, so we do not need to have a doctorate in theoretical physics to understand the relativity (slower time for the distant observer to the observer near disproportionate increase in mass and energy to any object that wants to overcome the gravitational field of a singularity, etc) But the central story. as always, is not just about a physical phenomenon but on the exploration of the human soul, or in this case, Vulcan, we learn that the Vulcans had choose, as teenagers, if they wish to embrace the path of logic or not. It is not wrong to have emotions, as long as you are the one that dominates them and not them to you. great story, highly recommended
The Grudge 3 (2009)
scary as hell!!!!
having seen the first two films of this franchise in the theater, really I didn't have too many expectations with this new sequel, which public launch goes straight to DVD, even the first 30 minutes the character development was pretty weak, and the ghosts of Kayako and Toshio had not really done anything scary, except for the beginning of the movie, however the last 60 minutes are without a doubt, the most distressing, dark, suffocating and frightening I've experienced in my life, suffice it to say that I watch this movie at night, and almost could not sleep, remembering to these dark and horrific figures. If you are a fan of horror and thinks you saw it all, I recommend you to see this movie, see it alone, at night, and without prejudice of any kind. and may God have mercy on your tormented soul.
Battlestar Galactica (2004)
at least this one lasted 73 episodes!
Thank God, finally! common sense prevails and all those crappy shows "reimagined" are coming to an end: V, BSG, Bionic Woman, Terminator SCC, The Knight Rider, Blade ... etc, many people think that these shows are better than the originals then explain to me one thing. Why? if they are so good, not even take two seasons to be canceled? . I think the answer is obvious, the originality of an idea should prevail over any other capacity. And it is precisely this "originial" all these shows "reinvented" lack tremendously. If the writers, and and his ideas are so good, why not? spend all that ingenuity and creativity to do something new and fresh and they forget to do "remakes"!
