The Jacket (2005)
a movie to watch more than once
being that some of my favourite movies are Donnie darko ,open your eyes , the butterfly effect and the machinist and also a fan of Psychological and especially time travel movies (back to the future my favourite movies ever ) I decided I check this movie out .I watched it twice in a couple of days and the second time I appreciated more the time travel concept and I found it Extremely enjoyable and more important that it makes sense .ok some faults you will find (Jennifer Jason leigh hasn't aged a year and looks more beautiful in 2007)but if you look deeply in every movie some sort of fault you will find even in the greatest masterpieces. if you love Psychological/time travel/mystery movies you must check this one out .
Candyman,candy man,candy man,candy man?dare you say it the 5th time
Well finally i did get to see this genuinely frightening and violent horror movie that surely delivers . With a good storyline excellent score and a superb performance by Virginia Madden as Helen and even a decent one by Tony Todd in the title role . The story about an urban legend died nearly a century ago is an interesting one and will holds you till the last scene. This movie came out in the 90's and surely is one of the best of the decade on a par with scream , i know what you did last summer, wolf and come very slightly below thrillers like the 6th sense and stir of echoes . horror fans surely have to see this one little gem of a movie that will grip you and entertain you
Drag Me to Hell (2009)
Sam Raimi invites you for a trip to hell
Spiderman director Sam Raimi invites all true horror fans for a terrifying trip to hell, the victim is Christine Brown (Alison Lohmam)who works at a branch and one day she is confronted by an old woman asking her for another extension and from here begins the terrifying trip for Christine brown, but from here till the end we have to give high marks to director Sam Raimi that from sequence after another succeeds brilliantly in scaring the viewer . The only minor fault in my opinion is the slightly over emphasizing in special effects but this movie stands as one of the top 5 horror movies of the last 25 years . True horror fans can't miss it.
Terminator Salvation (2009)
Better than rise of the machines
O.k it's neither T1 or T2, but who can match them? It's only an entertaining , all out action with decent plot (though it contains some plot holes) and decent acting especially Christian Bale who did a good job much better than his role in the Dark Knight in which we didn't understand that stupid accent. What can i say more the charisma of Arnold Schwarzenegger everyone will miss it but director McG manage to make the film work much better than Jonathan Mostow's Rise of the machines but not quite in the same league of the James Cameron movies.Well it's a nearly 2 hour movie that is surely worth it to pass your time by despite what the critics say.
My Bloody Valentine (2009)
Sometimes it's better sometimes it's worse than the original
The 1981 original version of My Bloody Valentine was a passable horror movie about a madman returns to kill on valentine's day. This 3D remake version is surely made only for 3D if you watch this in 3d it's a 7 movie if not it's a 5 movie.Well what went good? it contains some suspense and scary moments (the store sequence for example),some decent acting and the exaggerated violence and sex scenes are entertaining to watch in 3D.What went wrong? as i said in the previous line the violence and sex scenes are great to watch in 3D but in the normal version will surely seem over the top and exaggerated and surely a bit tedious especially the violence which is truly bloody and then there's the ending, the original didn't contained a great ending to begin with but this one stretched credibility to the top and copied other movies in this genre.
The Cottage (2008)
You have to respect director Paul Andrew Williams for bringing us this frightening, sometimes gory and occasionally funny low budget movie that truly surprised me as a moviegoer.Considering this is a very low budget movie it contains anything you wish for in a horror/comedy,some gory moments, suspense and scary moments and some moments that make you laugh from the well casted characters especially the hopeless Reece Sheersmith casted as Peter who don't help much his brother Andy Serkis as casted David in the kidnapping of Jennifer Ellison casted as Tracey.Fans of the Horror/Comedy genre cannot miss this nearly perfect movie for the genre SEE IT NOW.
Big Fish (2003)
You can put this delightful drama in the same level of classics like Forrest Gump (from which i think was inspired), Rocky, To kill a mockingbird and One flew over the cuckoo's nest for it's incredible way to entertain and like Forrest Gump it's surreal life is a special delight like it is the life of Edward Bloom it's a great fantasy of life which contains sympathetic characters begin from Edward Bloom's character till Karl the Giant's character and even De Vito's character was good.Make a favor to yourself and watch this incredible drama with a great touch of comedy and fantasy and sure will make you smile and you will want to see it again.
The Forbidden Kingdom (2008)
Brilliant martial arts fantasy
The forbidden kingdom stands surely as one of Jet Li's best movies and as a comeback movie for the legendary Jackie Chan. They are both casted right in this charming martial arts fantasy , Jet Li is very believable in his role as a monk and even in that of a monkey fighter and on the other hand Jackie Chan is obviously good as a drunken master in which role we've already seen him twice in both versions of his Drunken master movies. The special effects are pretty good too and the spirit of Bruce Lee is obvious in this movie because his name is mentioned and shown at least four times.Especially for Jackie Chan this movie should revive his career after the mega disaster of Around The World In 80 Days and other failures like The Tuxedo and The Medallion.
The Happening (2008)
come on it's not that bad
O.k the performances are not that great, although Betty Buckley as Mrs.Jones gives a great 10 min performance ,the fact that others were being infected and mark wahlberg his wife and the child survived seems a bit odd too and the twist in the end if there is one is very difficult too understand , o.k i agree with those who criticise director M.NIGHT SHYAMALAN for these facts because even the script have it's holes too and from a director of his calibre people pretend something better but there are many good points and i don't understand why the IMDb users are giving him all this bad reviews because no one can deny these positive points in the movie :No1 the movie is rarely boring and it's gripping from the first scene till the end only in some scenes in the middle of the film tend to lose it's grip.No2 i've seen comments here about the last 40 minutes of the movie that are horrible, o.k the first part is a bit better but the best and the surely most terrifiying parts of the movie are the scenes which involves the creepy and scary character of Mrs.Jones that made me stay gripped to my seat in the theatre.No3 i think the reason that this movie is critically bashed because it is directed by M.NIGHT SHYAMALAN and people had expected more . I'm not a big fan of M.NIGHT SHYAMALAN but i happen to enjoy it despite it's flaws which are admirable evident
Eternal movie that frustrates our mind
Yes that's the perfect line for this confusing and unsatisfactory movie that surely doesn't hold a candle to another Jim Carrey movie that was released in 1998 The Truman Show which was far better than this ****.First of all Jim Carrey seemed miscast and even the beautiful Kate Winslet doesn't seem that convincing too,but the worst point of the movie comes when Jim Carrey goes to erase Kate from his mind because all we see is a series of confusing and ultimately boring sequences that makes the movie running time seems like eternity even if it have 108 minutes.I don't care if it's rated 8.5, it's one of the most overrated movies of all time ,it's a FAILURE and DISGUSTING movie.
