The Prince and the Pauper (1977)
I really rather like it...
My parents recorded this when my brother and I were learning English Tudor history in school, and has never lost its spark, although perhaps I still see it through my child eyes! The sets and costumes are fantastic, the all-star cast are all well cast, there's plenty of action and adventure and Oliver Reed is particularly a gem. "Your fingernails are filthy!" Although Mark Lester is fairly wooden and old for this role, I still think he was well cast. Great film for all the family, lots of action and fighting sequences, although more from Heston, Harrison and Welch would have been better, and also less of the American accents!!
Bernard and the Genie (1991)
Absolute Genius
I have to agree with the rest of the comments on this page - this is the greatest Christmas film of all time. The performances from Lenny Henry, Alan Cummings and Rowan Atkinson are well cast as are the extras such as Mrs Purse and the lift operator. The acting is superb and the writing is excellent. I have watched it since it was first broadcast Christmas 1991 when I was 8, and have always enjoyed it even from that early age! So definitely a recommended film for all ages, and at any time of the year! "You smell of peppermints and it is time to die!"
Bridget Jones's Diary (2001)
Excellent
I absolutely love this film. Wonderful actors, brilliant story, everything. I read the book before I saw the film and was delighted at its adaption, even though it is very different from the book. Renee Zellwegers English accent is perhaps too posh, but that in no way spoils the film. And Colin Firth phhwwooaarrr! I wish I was in Bridgets shoes! Some of the other comments on here - they have obviously not read the book so can't relate to the background, 10/10, I highly recommend it.
Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002)
So-so
Don't get me wrong, I am one of the biggest Austin Powers fans but this film was a bit disappointing. It was very funny in parts, but the overall plot was too strange for one thing. Also, Mike Myers seemed to be playing the part very overtired and bored of the same thing, using the same lines etc. Michael Caine was good and so was> the rest of the cast. Beyonce Knowles wasn't used enough and her "sugar" line was overused. I thought Austin Powers was supposed to be spoofing James Bond - doesn't seem to be the case anymore.
Other than that, I quite enjoyed it! A good film for 15+, very funny, but another sequel wouldn't be wise, as much as I love the films, they should stop while on a high!
